On the Statistical Properties of Phase Crossings and Random FM Noise in Double Rayleigh Fading Channels
2016
In this paper, we study the statistics of phase processes and random frequency modulation (FM) noise encountered in double Rayleigh fading channels. The Rayleigh processes making up the double Rayleigh channel are assumed to be independent but not necessarily identically distributed. The Doppler power spectral densities of these processes are supposed to be symmetric about the carrier frequency. Under these fading conditions, we derive first an expression for the joint probability density function (jpdf) of the phase process and its rate of change. Capitalizing on this jpdf formula, we then investigate the probability density function (pdf) and cumulative distribution function (cdf) of rand…
A Multi-Phase Decode-and-Forward Transmission Protocol in Cognitive Relay Networks: Outage Analysis and Relay Power Allocation
2015
Consider an underlay cognitive relay network with multiple source and destination pairs and that a decode-and-forward scheme is adopted at the relay. We propose a multi-phase transmission protocol in this paper which involves cooperation among source, relay and destination nodes. Given perfect interference elimination before decoding at the destination nodes, we derive closed-form expressions for outage probability calculation over Rayleigh fading channels. Furthermore, the optimal relay power allocation factor which leads to minimal outage probability is determined. Numerical results reveal the conditions under which satisfactory performance can be achieved based on the proposed scheme.
Improving the Performance Metric of Wireless Sensor Networks with Clustering Markov Chain Model and Multilevel Fusion
2013
Published version of an article in the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2013/783543 Open access The paper proposes a performance metric evaluation for a distributed detection wireless sensor network with respect to IEEE 802.15.4 standard. A distributed detection scheme is considered with presence of the fusion node and organized sensors into the clustering and non-clustering networks. Sensors are distributed in clusters uniformly and nonuniformly and network has multilevel fusion centers. Fusion centers act as heads of clusters for decision making based on majority-like received signal strength (RSS) with comparis…
Geometry-Based Statistical Modeling of Non-WSSUS Mobile-to-Mobile Rayleigh Fading Channels
2017
In this paper, we present a novel geometry-based statistical model for small-scale non-wide-sense stationary uncorrelated scattering (non-WSSUS) mobile-to-mobile (M2M) Rayleigh fading channels. The proposed model builds on the principles of plane wave propagation to capture the temporal evolution of the propagation delay and Doppler shift of the received multipath signal. This is different from existing non-WSSUS geometry-based statistical channel models, which are based on a spherical wave propagation approach, that in spite of being more realistic is more mathematically intricate. By considering an arbitrary geometrical configuration of the propagation area, we derive general expressions …
Performance Analysis of M-DPSK Modulation over Fast-Hoyt Fading Channels under Non-Isotropic Scattering Conditions
2021
In this paper, we analyze the symbol error probability (SEP) performance of M-ary differential phase shift keying (M-DPSK) modulation schemes over frequency-flat fast-varying Hoyt multipath fading channels. Assuming general non-isotropic scattering conditions, we first derive a finite-range integral expression for the probability density function (PDF) of the phase difference between two non-isotropic Hoyt vectors perturbed by additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). Based upon the theory of M-DPSK modulation and the obtained PDF formula, the SEP of M-DPSK and its corresponding asymptotic behavior in non-isotropic fast-Hoyt fading channels are derived. Specifically, a double semi-finite range …
Simultaneous harvest-and-transmit ambient backscatter communications under Rayleigh fading
2019
Ambient backscatter communications is an emerging paradigm and a key enabler for pervasive connectivity of low-powered wireless devices. It is primarily beneficial in the Internet of things (IoT) and the situations where computing and connectivity capabilities expand to sensors and miniature devices that exchange data on a low power budget. The premise of the ambient backscatter communication is to build a network of devices capable of operating in a battery-free manner by means of smart networking, radio frequency (RF) energy harvesting and power management at the granularity of individual bits and instructions. Due to this innovation in communication methods, it is essential to investigat…
Statistical Analysis of the Channel Capacity Outage Intervals in Massive MIMO Systems with OSTBC over Rayleigh Fading Channels
2015
This paper studies approximate solutions for the statistical properties of the outage intervals of the instantaneous capacity in massive multiple- input multiple- output (MIMO) sys- tems with orthogonal space-time block code (OSTBC) over Rayleigh fading channels. We take advantage from the fact that the probability density function (PDF) of the channel power gain can be approximated by a left-truncated Gaussian distribution if the number of transmit and receive antennas is large. Assuming a symmetrical Doppler power spectral density (PSD), a closed- form expression is presented for the Rice probability function of the outage durations. This function, in general, approximates the PDF of the …
The influence of severity of fading on the statistical properties of the capacity of Nakagami-m channels with MRC and EGC
2010
In this article, we have studied the statistical properties of the capacity of Nakagami-m channels when spatial diversity combining, such as maximal ratio combining (MRC) and equal gain combining (EGC), is employed at the receiver. The presented results provide insight into the statistical properties of the channel capacity under a wide range of fading conditions in wireless links using L-branch diversity combining techniques. We have derived closed-form analytical expressions for the probability density function (PDF), cumulative distribution function (CDF), level-crossing rate (LCR), and average duration of fades (ADF) of the channel capacity. The statistical properties of the capacity ar…
