Very Low Energy Protons From the Beta Decay of Proton Rich Nuclei For Nuclear Astrophysics

The MARS group at TAMU has developed a new experimental technique to measure very low energy protons from β-delayed proton-decay of proton-rich nuclei produced and separated with the MARS recoil spectrometer at TAMU. Recently we have investigated the β-delayed p-decays of 23Al [1], and 31Cl [2], and obtained information on the resonances in the 22Na(p,γ)23Mg and 30P(p,γ) 31S reactions, respectively. These reactions are important in explosive H-burning in Novae [3]. Recently an experiment looking at the β-delayed p-decay of 20Mg was also done in order to obtain information on resonances in the 19Ne(p,γ)20Na reaction. Thermonuclear reactionS30(p,γ)Cl31studied via Coulomb breakup ofCl31

Coulomb breakup at high energy in inverse kinematics of proton-rich Cl-31 was used to constrain the thermonuclear S-30(p,gamma)Cl-31 capture reaction rate under typical Type I x-ray burst conditions. This reaction is a bottleneck during rapid proton-capture nucleosynthesis (rp process), where its rate depends predominantly on the nuclear structure of Cl-31. Two low-lying states just above the proton-separation threshold of S-p = 296( 50) keV in Cl-31 have been identified experimentally using the (RB)-B-3-LAND setup at the GSI Helmholtzzentrum fur Schwerionenforschung GmbH. Elliptic and Hexadecapole Flow of Charged Hadrons inAu+AuCollisions atsNN=200  GeV

Differential measurements of the elliptic (upsilon(2)) and hexadecapole (upsilon(4)) Fourier flow coefficients are reported for charged hadrons as a function of transverse momentum (p(T)) and collision centrality or number of participant nucleons (N-part) for Au + Au collisions at root s(NN) = 200 GeV/ The upsilon(2,4) measurements at pseudorapidity vertical bar eta vertical bar <= 0.35, obtained with four separate reaction-plane detectors positioned in the range 1.0 < vertical bar eta vertical bar < 3.9, show good agreement, indicating the absence of significant Delta eta-dependent nonflow correlations. Measurement of the Be7(n,p) cross section at thermal energy

The Be7(n,p) cross section was measured with an ion-implanted Be7 target at a thermal neutron beam of the research reactor LVR-15 in Řež. The cross section to the ground state of Li7 is σ(n,p0)=43800±1400b and the cross section to the first excited state of Li7 is σ(n,p1)=520±260b.

Fission fragment angular distribution of 232Th(n,f) at the CERN n TOF facility

The angular distribution of fragments emitted in neutron-induced fission of 232Th was measured in the white spectrum neutron beam at the n_TOF facility at CERN. A reaction chamber based on Parallel Plate Avalanche Counters (PPAC) was used, where the detectors and the targets have been tilted 45 degrees with respect to the neutron beam direction in order to cover the full angular range of the fission fragments. A GEANT4 simulation has been developed to study the setup efficiency. The data analysis and the preliminary results obtained for the 232Th(n,f) between fission threshold and 100 MeV are presented here.

Triangle amplitude with off-shell CoulombTmatrix for exchange reactions in atomic and nuclear physics

The lowest-order rescattering contribution (triangle amplitude) in three-body models of exchange reactions with charged particles contains the off-shell two-body T matrix describing the intermediate-state Coulomb scattering of charged subsystems. General properties of the exact exchange triangle amplitude, when the incoming and outgoing particles are on the energy shell, are derived. This includes the analytic behavior, i.e., the positions and characters of its leading singularities, in the cos\ensuremath{\vartheta} plane, where \ensuremath{\vartheta} is the scattering angle, in the vicinity of the forward- and backward-scattering directions. Migration of Nuclear Shell Gaps Studied in thed(Ne24,pγ)Ne25Reaction

The transfer of neutrons onto 24Ne has been measured using a reaccelerated radioactive beam of 24Ne to study the (d,p) reaction in inverse kinematics. The unusual raising of the first 3/2+ level in 25Ne and its significance in terms of the migration of the neutron magic number from N=20 to N=16 is put on a firm footing by confirmation of this state's identity. The raised 3/2+ level is observed simultaneously with the intruder negative parity 7/2- and 3/2- levels, providing evidence for the reduction in the N=20 gap. Interpretation of the High-Energy ProcessesO16(γ,p0)N15andO16(γ,n0)O15

Calculations based on a two-nucleon ($n\ensuremath{-}p$) absorption mechanism show that the form factor of the residual nucleus plays an important role in determining the shape of the photoproduction cross section in a wide energy range $60 \mathrm{MeV}l~{E}_{\ensuremath{\gamma}}l~300 \mathrm{MeV}$.

The dipole response of neutron-rich nuclei in the mass range from A = 10 to A = 22 and with mass to charge ratios of 2.5 to 2.8 has been invesitigated experimentally utilizing electromagnetic excitation in heavy-ion collisions at beam energies around 600 MeV/u.
