Influence of fusion barrier distributions on spin populations

2003

Abstract Heavy-ion fusion barrier distributions are now routinely obtained directly from experimental data. By measuring the total γ -ray multiplicity for the 58 Ni + 60 Ni system, which has a striking yet well understood barrier distribution, we show that some evidence of the barrier structures is present in the derived spin populations. In particular, very high spins can be populated at energies rather close to (and even below) the ‘nominal’ Coulomb barrier.

Structure ofSb118nucleus

1992

{gamma}, {gamma}{gamma}-coincidence, internal conversion electron, and {gamma}-ray angular distribution spectra of the {sup 118}Sn({ital p},{ital n}{gamma}){sup 118}Sb reaction were measured at different bombarding proton energies between 5.5 and 7.5 MeV. {gamma}, {gamma}{gamma}-coincidence, and internal conversion electron spectra of the {sup 115}In ({alpha},{ital n}{gamma}){sup 118}Sb reaction were also measured at {ital E}{sub {alpha}}=14.5 MeV. Ge(HP), Ge(Li), Ge(LEPS) {gamma}-ray detectors, as well as a superconducting magnetic lens electron spectrometer (with Si(Li) detectors), were used in the experiments. About 210 (including {similar to}130 new) {gamma} rays have been assigned to {…

In-beam γ-ray spectroscopy of 103Cd

1997

Excited states of Cd-103 were studied in the reaction Ni-58(Cr-50,4pn)Cd-103. The NORDBALL array with neutron and charged particle detectors was employed for the detection of gamma rays and light evaporated particles. The level scheme of Cd-103 was significantly extended. A strong cascade of E2 transitions connecting negative parity states was found, Shell model calculations were performed and positive parity excited states were interpreted in terms of neutron-particle and proton-hole excitations with respect to the doubly magic N = Z = 50 core. The negative parity band was well reproduced by the total routhian surface calculations. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.

Medium-spin levels and the character of the 20.4 ns isomer in 145Gd

1982

Abstract Levels of the N = 81 nucleus 145Gd have been investigated by in-beam γ-ray and conversion electron spectroscopy with the 144Sm(3He, 2n) reaction. Fourteen new low- and medium-spin states between 1.0 and 2.4 MeV excitation, the known yrast levels up to spin 21 2 + , five other high-spin non-yrast states and a new 20.4 ns 13 2 isomer at 2200.2 keV in 145Gd have been observed. The isomer decays via a fast 927.3 keV E3 transition with B(E3) = 48 ± 7 W.u. Another weaker decay branch is a mixed, strongly hindered E1 + M2 + E3 transition to the v h −1 11 2 state. We propose an octupole v f 7 2 j −2 × 3 − main configuration for the isomer, analogous to the 997 keV 13 2 + isomer in 147Gd. T…

(e,e'f) Coincidence experiments on 235U and 238U

1990

Abstract Coincidence experiments for (e, e'f) on the actinide nuclei 235 U and 238 U have been performed at the Mainz Microtron (MAMI A) concentrating on three subjects: multipole strength distributions and form factors for the lowest multipolarities, the mass split in the fission decay of various giant multipole resonances, and the separation of near barrier fission channels. Data were taken at four values of momentum transfer ( q eff ≈ 0.20, 0.28, 0.53, and 0.71 fm −1 for 238 U, q eff ≈ 0.20, 0.44, 0.57, and 0.71 fm −1 for 235 U) for excitation energies ω = 4–22 MeV. The fission fragments have been detected using the Giessen PPAC-Ball. A model-independent multipole analysis yields both fo…

Manifestations of Clustering in Fission of Excited Actinides

2003

A new, graphical way of extracting important physical information from the total kinetic-energy—mass (TKE—M) distributions of the nuclear reaction products is presented. The resulting images indicate for the first time the presence of the Ni—Mo and Ge—Mo fission modes in the fission of Np nuclei at intermediate excitation energies.

Total Absorption Study of Beta Decays Relevant for Nuclear Applications and Nuclear Structure

2014

Abstract An overview is given of our activities related to the study of the beta decay of neutron rich nuclei relevant for nuclear applications. Recent results of the study of the beta decay of 87,88 Br using a new segmented total absorption spectrometer are presented. The measurements were performed at the IGISOL facility using trap-assisted total absorption spectroscopy.

Lifetimes of odd-spin yrast states inHg182

2010

Lifetimes of excited states in $^{182}\mathrm{Hg}$ were extracted from recoil-gated $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray spectra and recoil-gated $\ensuremath{\gamma}\ensuremath{\gamma}$-coincidence matrices using the recoil distance Doppler-shift method. States were populated using the $^{96}\mathrm{Mo}$($^{88}\mathrm{Sr}$,$2n$)$^{182}\mathrm{Hg}$ fusion-evaporation reaction. Measured lifetimes allowed transition probabilities, transition quadrupole moments, quadrupole deformation parameters, and transition dipole moments to be deduced for the band formed by the odd-spin yrast states. The experimental results confirm the low degree of octupole collectivity in this mass region.

In-beam γ-ray spectroscopy of 102Cd

1997

Neutron deficient nuclei close to 100Sn have been studied using the NORDBALL Ge-detector array together with ancillary particle detectors. Evaporation residues from the compound nucleus 108Te were identified with charged particle and neutron detectors. In this paper a considerable extension of the level scheme of the nucleus 102Cd is presented. The strongest cascade of the new level scheme reveals an irregular sequence of dipole transitions above Iπ = 10+ extending up to spin 17. A strongly populated rather regular side band consisting of four quadrupole transitions ranging from spin 9 to spin 17 was also discovered. This band was tentatively assigned negative parity. Shell model calculatio…
