The prevalence of cardiovascular diseases is significantly increased in the older population. Risk factors and predictors of future cardiovascular events such as hypertension, atherosclerosis, or diabetes are observed with higher frequency in elderly individuals. A major determinant of vascular aging is endothelial dysfunction, characterized by impaired endothelium-dependent signaling processes. Isoindoloquinoxalines 4 and 5 were obtained by refluxing 2-(2'-aminoaryl)-1-cyanoisoindoles 3a- e in acetic or formic acid. All derivatives were screened by the National Cancer Institute (Bethesda, MD) for the in vitro one dose primary anticancer assay against a 3-cell line panel. Compounds 4a- e, screened against a panel of about 60 human tumor cell lines, showed remarkable antineoplastic activity; they had GI 50 values in the low micromolar or submicromolar range and reached, in the case of 4c, nanomolar concentrations on 88% of the 59 tested cell lines. This Computation Tree Logic (CTL) is widely used to capture compositions of reactive systems. Model checking is particularly well-suited for the automated verification of finite-state systems, both for software and for hardware. A CTL model checker tool allows designers to automatically verify that systems satisfy specifications expressed in the language of CTL logic. In this paper we present a new CTL model checker implemented in client-server paradigm. CTL Designer, the client tool, allows an interactive construction of the CTL models as state-transition graphs. Antioxidant enzymes are known to protect living organisms against the oxidative stress risk, also induced by metals. In the present study, we describe the purification and molecular characterization of two Cu,Zn superoxide dismutases (SODs), referred to as Ci-SODa and Ci-SODb, from Ciona intestinalis, a basal chordate widely distributed in temperate shallow seawater. An unusual class of 5,6,7-trioxygenated dihydroflavonols (3a-e and 4a-j) were designed and prepared. Their antioxidative properties were assessed by examining their capacities in several in vitro models, including superoxide anion and 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging, rat liver homogenate lipid peroxidation inhibition, PC12 cells protection from oxidative damage, and xanthine oxidase inhibition. Purpose In this study we investigated patients that were hospitalized due to third molar (M3) complications. Specifically we analyzed frequency, age distribution, and outcome with respect to the M3 clinical status. Patients and Methods We set up a prospective cohort study and included 100 subjects admitted for management of acute M3-associated complications. The clinical status of the M3 was defined as 1 ) prophylactic M3 removal, 2 ) therapeutic (nonelective) M3 removal, or 3 ) M3 present at the time of admission.
