Readers’ Theater Projects for Special Education : A Randomized Controlled Study

A randomized controlled trial was conducted to study the effectiveness of two readers’ theater (RT) programs in promoting reading skills and motivation of dysfluent readers in Grades 3–4. One program (RT Goal) included a goal of preparing a performance for an audience (n = 50), while another program (RT Practice) did not include such a goal (n = 49). A group of dysfluent readers receiving traditional oral reading intervention (Control group; n = 59) and a group of classroom peers (Mainstream group; n = 159) served as controls. David Markson’s Reader’s block (1996) consists of 193 pages of quotations, anecdotes, names, and fragments. The book bears the paratext “A novel,” and the work has indeed been read as a narrative whole, in which “an aging author [...] contemplates the writing of a novel.” By being out of ordinary and therefore worth of telling, the anecdotes or curiosities seemingly fulfill the requirements of a “natural” narrative as defined by Monika Fludernik (1996). However, a mass of such mini-narratives, mixed with even more fragmentary texts, seems to defy narrativity (and tellability). Liikunta- ja hyvinvointiblogien merkitys lukijoidensa arjessa

Tämän pro gradu –tutkielman tarkoituksena oli selvittää liikunta- ja hyvinvointiblogien merkitystä blogien lukijoille. Tutkimus antoi tietoa muun muassa siitä, millaisin motiivein lukijat lukevat liikunta- ja hyvinvointiblogeja sekä millaisia konkreettisia ideoita he ovat blogeista saaneet ja toteuttaneet. Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin lyhyesti myös blogien merkitystä lukijoiden ravinto- ja liikuntakäyttäytymiseen. Tutkimukseen osallistui yhteensä 486 vastaajaa. Tutkimus oli määrällinen tutkimus ja tutkimusaineisto kerättiin verkkokyselylomakkeen avulla. Using FaceReader to recognize emotions during self-assessment relating to dyslexia

FaceReader ohjelman käyttö emootioiden tunnistamiseen lukihäiriöön liittyvän itse-arvioinnin aikana. Tämä pro gradu tutkielma tarkasteli kasvojen tunnistamis-ohjelma FaceReaderin käytettävyyttä tunteiden tunnistamisessa lukivaikeustaustaisilla henkilöillä heidän täyttäessään tietokone-avusteisesti itse-arviointikyselyitä resilienssiin, itsetuntoon, coping-keinoihin, sosiaaliseen kompetenssiin, attribuutioon, välttämiskäyttäytymiseen sekä terveystapoihin liittyen. Osallistujat (N=45, 17 naista / 28 miestä) olivat saaneet lukivaikeus-diagnoosin ja olivat olleet lapsena Niilo Mäki Instituutin asiakkaita.
