Evolutionary relationships among the members of an ancient class of non-LTR retrotransposons found in the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans.

We took advantage of the massive amount of sequence information generated by the Caenorhabditis elegans genome project to perform a comprehensive analysis of a group of over 100 related sequences that has allowed us to describe two new C. elegans non-LTR retrotransposons. We named them Sam and Frodo. We also determined that several highly divergent subfamilies of both elements exist in C. elegans. It is likely that several master copies have been active at the same time in C. elegans, although only a few copies of both Sam and Frodo have characteristics that are compatible with them being active today. This contribution presents enunciative pragmatics as a methodological orientation to account for how written texts are contextualized in the act of reading. As an offspring of the pragmatic turn among French-speaking linguists, the enunciative approach is mobilized to analyze the cover page of a cartoon on the anti-globalization legend Jose Bove. Focusing on the complex interpretive problems of political discourse, the enunciative-pragmatic approach shows how readers construct subject positions following the text's complex indexicality. Joulukuussa 2017 julkaistiin kansainvälisen lasten lukutaitotutkimuksen (PIRLS) tulokset (ks. Leino ym. 2017). PIRLS-tutkimuksessa tarkastellaan 4.-luokkalaisten oppilaiden lukutaitoa ja lukemista monin eri tavoin. Keväällä 2016 hieman alle 5 000 oppilasta osallistui lukutaidon kokeeseen, jossa oppilaat vastasivat kaunokirjallisiin ja tietoteksteihin pohjautuviin tehtäviin. Lisäksi oppilaat täyttivät kyselyn, jonka avulla kerättiin tietoja oppilaiden asenteista, erilaisten tekstien lukemisesta ja oppilaan kotitaustasta. Early temperament and age at school entry predict task avoidance in elementary school

This study examined the role of temperament, prereading skills, and age at school entry in the development of Finnish children's task avoidance. Teachers rated the task-avoidant behavior of 198 participants in kindergarten and twice in Grades 2 and 3. Parents rated the children's temperament at age 3 and children's prereading skills were measured at age 5. The results showed that, on average, the level of children's task avoidance remained the same from kindergarten to Grade 2 fall, but decreased from Grade 2 fall to Grade 3 spring. Aim. The aim of this work is to present a qualitative analysis of the movie proposals prepared by preservice teachers in the context of an educational experience around the ecofeminist movement. The responses to a final questionnaire about sustainability awareness are also analysed.

Strain 1470 is the standard typing strain for serogroup F of Clostridium difficile containing both toxin genes, toxA-1470 and toxB-1470. A polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based approach to the sequencing of the total toxB-1470 gene identified an open reading frame (ORF) of 7104 nucleotides. In comparison with the previously sequenced toxB of C. difficile VP10463, the toxB-1470 gene has 16 additional nucleotides, 13 within the 5'-untranslated region and three within the coding region. The M(r) of ToxB-1470 is 269,262, with an isoelectric point (IP) of 4.16. The equivalent values for ToxB are M(r) 269,709 and IP 4.13. In large cc-NUMA systems the efficient use of the different levels of the memory hierarchy is not an easy task, and the performance of multithreading implementations of the libraries decreases when the number of cores used increases, so producing an important lost of efficiency. To alleviate this problem, routines with multilevel parallelism can be developed by combining OpenMP and BLAS parallelism. In that way, higher performance can be achieved, but it is necessary to develop some autotuning technique for the appropriate selection of the number of threads to use at each level. This study examined the dynamics between perceptions of mathematics task-orientation and mathematics performance among Finnish adolescents over a period of two last years of secondary school. Task-orientation in math was assessed at the beginning of grade 8 and again at the end of grade 9 using both student and teacher-reports. At the same time points, students' mathematics performance was evaluated via standardized test.
