A Lightweight Software Architecture for Robot Navigation and Visual Logging through Environmental Landmarks Recognition

A robot architecture with real-time performance in navigation tasks is presented. The system architecture is multi-threaded with shared memory and fast message passing through static signalling. In this paper, we focused on the reactive layer components and its straightforward implementation. The proposed architecture is described with reference to an experimental setup, in which the robot task is visual logging of environmental landmarks detected on the basis of sensor readings. Our experimental results show how the robot is able to identify, make snapshots and log a set of landmarks by matching 2D geometric patterns.

A high volume of redundant data transmitted through the network will result in collisions, data loss, and energy dissipation. We consider the estimation of the source process of the desired user an the downlink of a code-division multiple access (CDMA) communication system. In downlink signal processing, only the code of the mobile telephone user is known, while the codes of the interfering users are unknown. Blind source separation or independent component analysis is an approach offering the solution to this problem. In this work we apply the fast fixed point algorithm to the separation problem. The algorithm is based on fourth-order statistics optimization. Knowledge about the symbol level timing has to be known only coarsely.

Abstract We describe a transputer-based system suitable for accurate measurements of single-fiber electromyographic jitter. It consists of a conventional electromyograph, a home-made interface and a commercially available transputer-based board installed within a PC/AT compatible.
