A simple operation strategy of battery storage systems under dynamic electricity pricing: An Italian case study for a medium-scale public facility

2014

In the electricity market, wholesale energy prices depend on the balance between energy production and load demand. In the last few years, electricity market has become more and more flexible as many utilities have started to replace the fixed retail prices schemes with prices changing during the day. Dynamic pricing, also known as Real-Time Pricing (RTP), reflects the trend of the wholesale market and allows to reduce the volatility of the wholesale prices, also contributing to a reduction of demand peaks. Electricity customers take advantage of dynamic pricing by shifting their consumption according to the real-time prices or by using Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to shift electri…

A Cross-Country Comparison of Success Factor Priorities for Health Information Technology Managers: Evidence of Convergence in the Nordic Countries

2015

The implementation of Health Information Technology (HIT) can improve the provision of highquality and efficient healthcare services; however, it has met with significant challenges in many cases. Despite the challenges occurring in many countries, prior research on HIT implementation success factors is, however, mainly from the USA. This research conducted a survey to IT managers in Nordic countries’ healthcare organizations and compiled a list of the HIT implementation success factors that these managers considered important in each country. It was found that IT managers in Nordic countries agree highly with each other intheir judgment of the importance of these success factors. While Nor…

Real And Positive Filter Based On Circular Harmonic Expansion

1989

A real and positive filter for pattern recognition is presented. The filter, based on the circular harmonic (CH) expansion of a real function, is partially rotation invariant. As it is real and positive, the filter can be recorded on a transparency as an amplitude filter. Computer simulations of character recognition show a partial rotation invariance of about 40°. Optical experiments agree with these results and with acceptable discrimination between different characters. Nevertheless, due to experimental difficulties, the method is onerous for use in general pattern recognition problems.

Alta definición ecográfica en tiempo real (HDLive US) en Obstetricia y Ginecología / High real time ultrasound definition (HDLive US) in Obstetrics a…

2013

Side Effects of Ambient Noise Immunity Techniques on Outdoor IEEE 802.11 Deployments

2008

A very common conclusion of many experimental studies about IEEE 802.11 outdoor network deployments is that their poor performance results derive from the unfavorable interference and multi-path signals in which the WLAN-cards are required to operate. Goal of this paper is to show that this condition does not always hold, and unexpected and inaccurated PHY layer implementations can be a primary cause of packet losses. With the support of extensive measurement campaigns led in our campus, we provide the performance evidence that IEEE 802.11 outdoor performance impairments are strongly affected by proprietary interference mitigation techniques that adaptively adjust the WLAN-card receiver sen…

An algorithm for earthquakes clustering based on maximum likelihood

2007

In this paper we propose a clustering technique set up to separate and find out the two main components of seismicity: the background seismicity and the triggered one. We suppose that a seismic catalogue is the realization of a non homogeneous space-time Poisson clustered process, with a different parametrization for the intensity function of the Poisson-type component and of the clustered (triggered) component. The method here proposed assigns each earthquake to the cluster of earthquakes, or to the set of independent events, according to the increment to the likelihood function, computed using the conditional intensity function estimated by maximum likelihood methods and iteratively chang…

An unsupervised region growing method for 3D image segmentation

1995

The paper deals with 3D shape decomposition problem, objects are modelled as finite unions of almost-convex primitives. A new region growing method is proposed to extract meaningful objects parts. Parts are individuated by performing a set-partitioning of surface dominating points. The partition step returns labelled seeds from which to start a region growing procedure that propagate labels onto object surface patches. A fuzzy concept of λ-convexity is introduced to test noised real images. Experimental results are given.

The effects of three remineralizing agents on regression of white spot lesions in children: A two-week, single-blind, randomized clinical trial.

2016

Background This study investigated the effect of three remineralizing agents on improving white spot lesions (WSLs). Material and Methods This clinical trial included children who had at least one WSL on anterior teeth of upper or lower jaws. The participants were randomly assigned to 4 groups by treatment: 1) a cream containing casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate and fluoride (MI Paste Plus); 2) a cream containing hydroxyapatite and fluoride (Remin Pro); 3) a 2% sodium fluoride gel; and 4) usual home care (control). The treatment was performed for 3 times over 10 days using special trays for retaining remineralizing agents. The area and mineral content of WSLs were measured a…

Tooth discoloration and internal bleaching after the use of ledermix paste with various bleaching agents ? An in vitro study

2018

Background To assess the reversal of discolouration caused by Ledermix using various bleaching agents. Material and Methods Twenty six extracted human mandibular premolars were taken and divided into four groups. Six teeth were divided into three each which are taken as positive and negative controls. The remaining twenty are divided into two groups (n=10). After conventional access preparation, the Ledermix paste was sealed in the pulp chamber for twelve weeks. The paste was removed by a rinse with sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl). Then the pulp chamber was sealed with a mixture of Sodium perborate and distilled water for group 1 and group 2 was sealed with Sodium tetraborate for 1 to 12 weeks.…
