Abstract The formidable surge in the volume of international trade after 1960 stimulated surveys designed to ascertain to what degree the commercial flows among nations reflected the structure of their economies, in other words, how tight was the correlation between international exchanges and the specific attributes of participating nations. Northern peatlands consist of a mosaic of peatland types that vary spatially and temporally and differ in their methane (CH4) production. Microbial community composition and environment both potentially control the processes that release carbon from anoxic peat either as CH4 or carbon dioxide (CO2), a less potent greenhouse gas than CH4. However, the respective roles of these controls remain unclear, which prevents incorporating microbes in the predictions of peatland CH4 emissions. 2.Here, a reciprocal transplant experiment was carried out to separate the influences of microbial community and environment in CH4 and anaerobic CO2 production. The institution of the Real Audiencia in the kingdom of Sardinia since the 1560s is part of a wider process which saw the rise and development of royal supreme courts of justice in several European countries of the early modern period. In fact, major State formation processes all around Europe required that monarchs increased their control on local authorities and that new increasingly centralised systems of judicial review gained precedence over all particular jurisdictions, feudal as well as municipal. This brought about a dramatic transformation in the field of criminal law enforcement and administration of justice.
