The Impact of Personality and Motivation on Immersion in Simulation Games

The cognitive-motivational process model of learning describes how personality traits in a specific situation influence current learner motivation and through certain mediators, the learning outcome. This study investigates the influence of personality traits and current motivation on these mediators. For 86 high school students playing a simulation game, the Big Five, the need for cognition, current motivations, immersion, and joy of learning were measured. A hierarchical regression analysis showed that need for cognition, interest, and challenge significantly and positively impacts the experienced immersion. Wertheimer also emphasized the weaknesses of the newborn Gestalt theory: too many basic laws, and the ambiguity of definitions. Processing Information During Regressions: An Application of the Reverse Boundary-Change Paradigm.

Although 10-15% of eye-movements during reading are regressions, we still know little about the information that is processed during regressive episodes. Here, we report an eye-movement study that uses what we call the "reverse boundary change technique" to examine the processing of lexical-semantic information during regressions, and to establish the role of this information during recovery from processing difficulty. MRI of the inner ear: use of modified GRASS and fast spin-echo sequences

We report our experience with MRI of the normal and pathological inner ear with fast spin-echo and modified gradient recalled at steady state sequences. Although earlier studies on temporal bone MRI were discouraging, improvements in MR technology combined with the use of paramagnetic contrast media can make MRI a useful diagnostic tool for the assessment of inner ear pathology. Conventional spin-echo imaging seems not to be the modality of choice because of the relatively thick slices and the long acquisition times.
5‐Alpha reductase inhibitors in androgenetic alopecia: Shifting paradigms, current concepts, comparative efficacy, and safety

Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is a multifactorial disease that carries a significant psychological burden with it. Dihydrotestosterone, the main pathogenic androgen in AGA, is produced by conversion of testosterone, which is catalyzed by the 5-alpha reductase (5-AR) isoenzyme family. Finasteride and dutasteride are inhibitors of these enzymes. Finasteride, which is a single receptor 5-alpha reductase inhibitor (5-ARI), acts by blocking dihydrotestosterone (DHT).
