This article presents the hitherto undescribed relationship between humans and cows in Władysław Reymont's The Peasants. The tropes used by Reymont, especially the personifications of naturę in the Young Poland style, do not include the world of animals. However, the totality of Reymont's world lies in the blurring of distinctive boundaries between species and their subsequent restoration in an anthropocentric order. Seeing Gravity: Gait Adaptations to Visual and Physical Inclines – A Virtual Reality Study

Using advanced virtual reality technology, we demonstrate that exposure to virtual inclinations visually simulating inclined walking induces gait modulations in a manner consistent with expected gravitational forces (i.e., acting upon a free body), suggesting vision-based perception of gravity. The force of gravity critically impacts the regulation of our movements. However, how humans perceive and incorporate gravity into locomotion is not well understood. Rotator cuff calcific tendinopathy: from diagnosis to treatment

Rotator cuff calcific tendinopathy (RCCT) is a very common condition caused by the presence of calcific deposits in the rotator cuff (RC) or in the subacromial-subdeltoid (SASD) bursa when calcification spreads around the tendons. The pathogenetic mechanism of RCCT is still unclear. It seems to be related to cell-mediated disease in which metaplastic transformation of tenocytes into chondrocytes induces calcification inside the tendon of the RC. RCCT is a frequent finding in the RC that may cause significant shoulder pain and disability. It can be easily diagnosed with imaging studies as conventional radiography (CR) or ultrasound (US). XIV que parafrasea libremente varias fuentes literarias de contenido zoológico, entre las que destaca la Historia Animalium de Claudio Eliano. Un análisis detallado de los procedimientos de sustitución léxica realizado por el autor, apoyado en la consulta de los diccionarios bizantinos, permite reconocer su originalidad compositiva, la riqueza expresiva de su vocabulario poético, pero también la clara conciencia de la existencia de diferentes niveles de lengua y de los muy diversos registros utilizados por el autor.

Regular build-up of the spring phytoplankton maximum before ice-break in a boreal lake

The development of phytoplankton biomass and composition in a eutrophic boreal lake was studied during the evolution of under-ice convection in spring. The results from 8 yr showed that, within a few weeks before ice-break, phytoplankton biomass regularly increased by up to two or three orders of magnitude, reaching or exceeding the biomass in summer. Accordingly, this may be the most significant single annual phytoplankton episode in the lake. The development of phytoplankton was closely coupled with that of convection created by solar radiation at water temperatures < 4°C. Vergara de la capilla de la Universidad, la estampa debida a Vicente López para ser grabada por Vicente Capilla, así como el lienzo de San Bruno, existente en el Múseo de de la Ciudad, que presidió la capilla a él dedicada en la misma cartuja.
