The relationship between water and air temperature in chironomid-based paleoclimate reconstructions: Records from boreal and subarctic Finland

2014

Fossil remains of larval chironomids are one of the most useful paleolimnological proxies to reconstruct Holocene paleoclimate. We investigate the within-lake distribution of chironomids in relation to water temperature and test the usability of intralake calibration in chironomid-based temperature reconstructions. We compare our findings against the traditional multilake calibration technique in Holocene sediment cores from Finland. The results show that intralake water temperature optima of common taxa correspond closely with mean July air temperature optima in a regional multilake dataset, with exception of a few vegetation-associated taxa. A calibration model based on intralake water t…

HOLOCENE CLIMATE AS REFLECTED BY A MALACOLOGICAL SEQUENCE AT VERRIERES FRANCE

2008

Though numerous analyses have been made of Holocene pollen sequences, they come from similar environmental contexts, mainly peat deposits. Land snails can provide good palaeoecological and palaeoclimatical data in different drier environmental settings. The Verrieres deposits, located in the Seine Valley, southeast of Paris, provide rich and abundant malacofaunas. We compare the well–defined local biostratigraphy with other mollusc stratigraphies from Burgundy, the closet site to the studied region. Multivariate analysis of the malacofaunas indicates that temperature and moisture did not always vary in parallel during the Holocene. On the other hand, Verrieres malacofaunas reflect the main …

The Averinga’s Edicola and the Cult of Water in Palermo. From Knowledge to Valorisation

2018

Digital Mosaic Frameworks - an overview

2007

Art often provides valuable hints for technological innovations especially in the field of Image Processing and Computer Graphics. In this paper we survey in a unified framework several methods to transform raster input images into good quality mosaics. For each of the major different approaches in literature the paper reports a short description and a discussion of the most relevant issues. To complete the survey comparisons among the different techniques both in terms of visual quality and computational complexity are provided.

Beyond the screen

2021

The didactic experiences in the field of architectural design, in courses that have always had a strong workshop character, have been varied in recent years and have been carried out in different variants that, when considered as a whole, allow us to reflect on the problems and the challenges faced during the pandemic. Indeed, a didactic normally conducted with compulsory attendance suffered in a sudden andunexpected way from the cancellation of physical presence, the loss of contact with people and the “corporeality” of the project. Moreover, the absence of the physical space of the classroom (a scene inherent to the laboratory) soon led to the search for new tools and appropriate methods …

Cap Rate as the Interpretative Variable of the Urban Real Estate Capital Asset: A Comparison of Different Sub‐Market Definitions in Palermo, Italy

2017

Real estate capital is in constant competition with other capital assets due to its different and complementary economic functions such as direct use, productive investment, and speculative investment. These features and the resulting opportunities cannot be easily deduced from direct observation of the real estate markets, so some further insights need to be carried out in order to highlight the relationship between prices, rents and performances. This study aims at providing a multifaceted perspective of a specific urban real estate market to overcome the difficulties arising from opacities and informative asymmetries that hinder the decision of investors, by facilitating the comparison o…

La leggerezza del lamellare. Una realizzazione e un progetto

2009
