Flexible power converters for the fault tolerant operation of Micro-Grids
2010
The progressive penetration level of Distributed Generation (DG) is destined to cause deep changes in the existing distribution networks no longer considered as passive terminations of the whole electrical system. A possible solution is the realization of small networks, namely the Micro-Grids, reproducing in themselves the structure of the main production and distribution of the electrical energy system. In order to gain an adequate reliability level of the microgrids the individuation and the management of the faults with the goal of maintaining the micro-grid operation (fault tolerant operation) is quite important. In the present paper flexible power converters and a companion control al…
Experience Europe! The Reception of the Leuenberger Agreement as Model and Constant Challenge
2016
Abstract The Leuenberg Agreement (LA) is one of the most productive ecumenical documents ever seen. It initiated a church fellowship, the “Community of Protestant Churches in Europe” (CPCE). LA evoked an ongoing process of its’ own reception that can be seen in a variety of different expressions such as church communion, doctrinal conversations and public statements. However, this reception is still all too frequent limited to the European level of interaction between the member churches of CPCE. It remains one of the main challenges for the Community, a condition for “Verbindlichkeit” and the legitimated representation of its members to strengthen the awareness for the relevance of LA and …
Method to Remedy Image Degradations Due to Facet Braiding in 3D Integral-Imaging Monitors
2010
One of the main challenges in 3D integral imaging (InI) is to overcome the limited depth of field of displayed 3D images. Although this limitation can be due to many factors, the phenomenon that produces the strongest deterioration of out-of-focus images is the facet braiding. In fact, the facet braiding is an essential problem, since InI 3D monitors are not feasible if the braiding problem is not solved. In this paper, we propose a very simple method for overcoming the facet braiding effect which is a serious limitation for realization of 3D TV based on InI. Hybrid experiments are presented to verify the theoretical analysis.
To lead or to wait? An application to internationalization strategies under demand uncertainty
2019
We examine the exports versus foreign direct investment (FDI) decision under demand uncertainty for an asymmetric cost duopoly. One of the firms can lead entry before demand realization or retain flexibility enjoying an informational advantage. When the time value of information is small and for sufficiently low investment costs, follow‐the‐leader behavior in FDI arises. Relatively high investment (fixed) costs result in follow‐the‐leader exporting behavior. When the time value of information becomes significant, the potential leader will opt for a wait‐and‐see strategy. For intermediate values of investment costs, the efficient firm invests, while the rival chooses to export.
Tunable non-Gaussian resources for continuous-variable quantum technologies
2013
We introduce and discuss a set of tunable two-mode states of continuous-variable systems, as well as an efficient scheme for their experimental generation. This novel class of tunable entangled resources is defined by a general ansatz depending on two experimentally adjustable parameters. It is very ample and flexible as it encompasses Gaussian as well as non-Gaussian states. The latter include, among others, known states such as squeezed number states and de-Gaussified photon-added and photon-subtracted squeezed states, the latter being the most efficient non-Gaussian resources currently available in the laboratory. Moreover, it contains the classes of squeezed Bell states and even more ge…
Generation of nonlinear current-voltage characteristics. A general method
2002
International audience; A general method allowing to construct nonlinear resistors with arbitrary current-voltage (I-V) characteristics is proposed. The example of a cubic I-V characteristic is presented showing a perfect agreement between the theoretical desired resistor and its electronic realization based on analog multipliers.
LKS-92 Coordinates Transformation to ITRF2000
2014
LKS-92 is Latvian geodetic coordinate system used as an EUREF89 realization in Latvia. LKS-92 is official coordinate system for procuring of essential geospatial data. For aeronautical and other purposes ITRF2000 is used in publication of geospatial data. Research is done to obtain transformation parameters from LKS-92 realization epoch 1992.75 through LatPos to ITRF2000 epoch 2000.00. Valuation of two different coordinate adjustment strategies and accuracy of parameters is done. Results of research could be used for transformation from LKS-92 to ITRF2000 for all kind of geospatial data.
Benefits Realization in eGovernment: Institutional Entrepreneurship or Just Hype?
2013
As development practices of eGovernment gradually mature, there appears to be an increasing focus on documentation of innovation processes and documentation of realized benefits. Although research on benefits realization provides some guidance to these issues, there is a lack of empirical research to validate central tenets in the literature and to provide the level of detail necessary to understand the impact benefits realization practices can have on organizations. To address these issues, we carried out an in-depth longitudinal case study of a large-scale benefits realization effort in Norway. Institutional theory was used to analyze the organizational impact. Our findings show that the …
Towards a Theoretical Model for Co-Realization of IT Value in Government
2015
Despite decades of heavy investments in information technology (IT) and information systems (IS) in government systems and considerable amounts of research on how IS contributes to organizational performance and success, IS investments are still considered risky business. Fewer than 50% of IS projects deliver the expected functionality on time and on budget. As the world becomes increasingly more complex, IS increasingly needs to function across organizational boundaries. The added complexity is likely to add to the risks of IS investments. Hence, there is a need to improve practice and to increase the success rate of IS investments, especially in government settings. To address this fundam…
Analyzing Protein-Protein Spatial-Temporal Dependencies from Image Sequences Using Fuzzy Temporal Random Sets
2008
Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence Microscopy (TIRFM) allows us to image fluorescenttagged proteins near the plasma membrane of living cells with high spatial-temporal resolution. Using TIRFM imaging of GFP-tagged clathrin endocytic proteins, areas of fluorescence are observed as overlapping spots of different sizes and durations. Standard procedures to measure protein-protein colocalization of dual labeled samples threshold the original graylevel images to segment areas covered by different proteins. This binary logic is not appropriate as it leaves a free tuning parameter which can influence the conclusions. Moreover, these procedures rely on simple statistical analysis based on corre…
