OWL Orthogonal Extension
2012
It is critical for knowledge bases to capture the reality in direct and intuitive way. OWL ontology language was designed for this goal. In this paper we study the limitations of the OWL open world semantics for the task of knowledge capture and retrieval. We propose a new mechanism based on the closed world semantics that alleviates part of the limitations. Further we describe a system where both OWL and the new mechanisms interoperate together. Finally, we outline some immediate applications and further research directions.

L'ordine dell'amore in Blaise Pascal
2021
The author focuses on the question of love in Pascal which finds its most exhaustive treatment in the fragment on the three orders. Furthermore, it focuses on the epistemological and ethical implications of Pascal's thesis.
Descriptive Evaluation of Age-Related Differences in Clinical Manifestation and Treatment of Von Willebrand's Disease in an Open-Label, Prospective, …
2012
Abstract Abstract 4630 Efficacy, tolerability and dosing of a VWF/FVIII concentrate may differ in paediatric, adults, and elderly patients. It is therefore reasonable to collect and evaluate clinical data of patients from different age groups and to look into differences in treatment and reason for treatment with VWF/FVIII concentrate. A cohort of 120 patients suffering from all types of von Willebrand's disease (VWD) from an on-going German post-marketing surveillance study was analysed for age-related differences in treatment with a high-purity, double virus inactivated VWF/FVIII concentrate (wilate®). Results: Thirteen children up to 12 years of age and 14 patients being 65 or older were…
A framework for sign language sentence recognition by common sense context
2007
This correspondence proposes a complete framework for sign language recognition that integrates a commonsense engine in order to deal with sentence recognition. The proposed system is based on a multilevel architecture that allows modeling and managing of the knowledge of the recognition process in a simple and robust way. The final abstraction level of this architecture introduces the semantic context and the analysis of the correctness of a sentence given in a sequence of recognized signs. Experimentations are presented using a set of signs from the Italian sign language (LIS) for domotic applications. The implemented system maintains a high recognition rate when the set of signs grows, c…

Due to the severity of system-wide power outages, though their probability of occurrence is slight, regulatory authorities require that a system restoration plan be drawn up and kept up to date at all times. The power outage that affected northeastern North America in 2003 proved the need for such a requirement. The particular structure of Hydro-Quebec's power system requires the use of a highly specific system restoration procedure. The daily preparation of the system restoration plan is based on a strategy whose application requires that a restoration sequence be drawn up that uses available equipment, the electrical behavior of which has been validated using appropriate studies. Over the…
Theories relating baryon asymmetry and dark matter
2014
The nature of dark matter and the origin of the baryon asymmetry are two of the deepest mysteries of modern particle physics. In the absence of hints regarding a possible solution to these mysteries, many approaches have been developed to tackle them simultaneously leading to very diverse and rich models. We give a short review where we describe the general features of some of these models and an overview on the general problem. We also propose a diagrammatic notation to label the different models.
Diagrammatic expansion for positive spectral functions beyond GW : Application to vertex corrections in the electron gas
2014
We present a diagrammatic approach to construct self-energy approximations within many-body perturbation theory with positive spectral properties. The method cures the problem of negative spectral functions which arises from a straightforward inclusion of vertex diagrams beyond the GW approximation. Our approach consists of a two-steps procedure: we first express the approximate many-body self-energy as a product of half-diagrams and then identify the minimal number of half-diagrams to add in order to form a perfect square. The resulting self-energy is an unconventional sum of self-energy diagrams in which the internal lines of half a diagram are time-ordered Green's functions whereas those…
