In the last decade, scientific literature provided solid evidence of cognitive deficits in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) patients and their effects on end-life choices. However, moral cognition and judgment are still poorly investigated in this population. Here we aimed at evaluating both socio-cognitive and socio-affective components of moral reasoning in a sample of 28 ALS patients. Comparing competing views of analogy making using eye-tracking technology

International audience; We used eye-tracking to study the time course of analogical reasoning in adults. We considered proportions of looking times and saccades. The main question was whether or not adults would follow the same search strategies for different types of analogical problems (Scene Analogies vs. Classical A:B:C:D vs a Scene version of A:B::C:D). We then compared these results to the predictions of various models of analogical reasoning. Further remarks on mathematical thought are also made in the light of what established, taking into account the comparison with the extreme patho-logical schizophrenic paradigm.
Pattern languages with and without erasing

The paper deals with the problems related to finding a pattern common to all words in a given set. We restrict our attention to patterns expressible by the use of variables ranging over words. Two essentially different cases result, depending on whether or not the empty word belongs to the range. We investigate equivalence and inclusion problems, patterns descriptive for a set, as well as some complexity issues. The inclusion problem between two pattern languages turns out to be of fundamental theoretical importance because many problems in the classical combinatorics of words can be reduced to it.

The search for an efficient method to enhance data cognition is especially important when managing data from multidimensional databases. Open data policies have dramatically increased not only the volume of data available to the public, but also the need to automate the translation of data into efficient graphical representations. Using Attribute Grammars for Description of Inductive Inference Search Space

The problem of practically feasible inductive inference of functions or other objects that can be described by means of an attribute grammar is studied in this paper. In our approach based on attribute grammars various kinds of knowledge about the object to be found can be encoded, ranging from usual input/output examples to assumptions about unknown object's syntactic structure to some dynamic object's properties. We present theoretical results as well as describe the architecture of a practical inductive synthesis system based on theoretical findings.
An inductive inference approach to classification

Abstract In this paper we introduce a formal framework for investigating the relationship of inductive inference and the task of classification. We give the first results on the relationship between functions that can be identified in the limit and functions that can be acquired from unclassified objects only. Moreover, we present results on the complexity of classification functions and the preconditions necessary in order to allow the computation of such functions.

Explaining children’s failure in analogy making tasks: A problem of focus of attention?

International audience; Analogical reasoning is commonly recognized as essential to human cognition, but young children often perform poorly in the classical A:B::C:? analogical reasoning task. Previous eye-tracking results have shown that children did not visually explore the A:B pair as much as adults in this task. We hypothesized that this lack of exploration could help account for the low scores of children in comparison to adults.
