During a manufacturing operation, exceptions may occur dynamically and unpredictably. Their occurrence may lead to the degradation of system performance or, in the worst case scenario may interrupt the production process by causing errors in the schedule plan. This paper classifies three families of exceptions: (1) out-of-order events such as machine breakdowns, (2) operational out-of-ordinary events such as rush orders and (3) deteriorations of manufacturing resource performance such as reductions of machines' utilization. The contribution aims to conjecturally reconstruct and analyze the unrealized project by Giuseppe Damiani Almeyda regarding the “Galleria Oretea” for Palermo. It is an urban project of considerable size and impact, which should have provided the city of Palermo, in the old town, with a gallery in the style of the Parisian “passages”, inspired by the contemporary creations of Milan and Naples. This paper presents an economical investigation on the benefits related to the employment of reconfiguration systems for photovoltaic plants. More in detail, different structures of reconfigurators are proposed and, in order to evaluate the economical convenience on their installation, the Net Present Value is used as a validation element. Network Reconfiguration Suitability for Scientific Applications

This paper analyzes the communication pattern of several scientific applications and how they can make profit of network reconfiguration in order to adapt network topology to the communication needs so that total execution time is reduced. By using an analysis methodology based on real application executions, we study the variation of the required communication bandwidth with time and also the global interprocedural communication patterns. Results show that required bandwidth between each pair of processes does not significantly fluctuates, leading to a constant use of the links and therefore discouraging dynamic reconfigurations of the network during execution time. In order to reduce the mismatch effect caused by non-uniform shadows in PV arrays, reconfigurable interconnections approaches have been recently proposed in the literature. A dynamic load-balancing algorithm for molecular dynamics simulation on multi-processor systems

Abstract A new algorithm for dynamic load-balancing on multi-processor systems and its application to the molecular dynamics simulation of the spinodal phase separation are presented. The load-balancer is distributed among the processors and embedded in the application itself. Tests performed on a transputer network show that the load-balancer behaves almost ideally in this application. The same approach can be easily extended to different multi-processor topologies or applications.
