New Metropolitan Perspectives Transition with Resilience for Evolutionary Development
2023
This open access book conveys attention to the theme of transition towards resilience and sustainability and its evolutionary perspective that emphasizes the complexity and uncertainty that governments and society are called to address in response to the ongoing challenges. "New Metropolitan Perspective Post COVID Dynamics: Green and Digital Transition, between Metropolitan and Return to Villages’ Perspectives”, 25–27 May 2022, Reggio Calabria, Italy. The papers included in the book are grouped around the following main topics: the envisaged transition towards resilience and sustainability; the relevance of the planning dimension for defining sustainable development pathways and managing co…
Safety of hospital discharge before return of bowel function after elective colorectal surgery
2020
Ileus is common after colorectal surgery and is associated with an increased risk of postoperative complications. Identifying features of normal bowel recovery and the appropriateness for hospital discharge is challenging. This study explored the safety of hospital discharge before the return of bowel function.A prospective, multicentre cohort study was undertaken across an international collaborative network. Adult patients undergoing elective colorectal resection between January and April 2018 were included. The main outcome of interest was readmission to hospital within 30 days of surgery. The impact of discharge timing according to the return of bowel function was explored using multiva…
Uniqueness, reconstruction and stability for an inverse problem of a semi-linear wave equation
2022
We consider the recovery of a potential associated with a semi-linear wave equation on Rn+1, n > 1. We show that an unknown potential a(x, t) of the wave equation ???u + aum = 0 can be recovered in a H & ouml;lder stable way from the map u|onnx[0,T] ???-> (11, avu|ac >= x[0,T])L2(oc >= x[0,T]). This data is equivalent to the inner product of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map with a measurement function ???. We also prove similar stability result for the recovery of a when there is noise added to the boundary data. The method we use is constructive and it is based on the higher order linearization. As a consequence, we also get a uniqueness result. We also give a detailed presentation of the forw…
Heart Rate Variability Monitoring During Strength and High-Intensity Interval Training Overload Microcycles
2019
Objective: In two independent study arms, we determine the effects of strength training (ST) and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) overload on cardiac autonomic modulation by measuring heart rate (HR) and vagal heart rate variability (HRV). Methods: In the study, 37 well-trained athletes (ST: 7 female, 12 male; HIIT: 9 female, 9 male) were subjected to orthostatic tests (HR and HRV recordings) each day during a 4-day baseline period, a 6-day overload microcycle, and a 4-day recovery period. Discipline-specific performance was assessed before and 1 and 4 days after training. Results: Following ST overload, supine HR, and vagal HRV (Ln RMSSD) were clearly increased and decreased (small …
Combustion behavior of black liquors : droplet swelling and influence of liquor composition
2017
The combustion of black liquor (BL) in a recovery boiler is a central process in a kraft pulp mill for recovering the cooking chemicals and for producing heat and power. This work explored the most important combustion behavior of BL, the swelling of in-flight droplets, from the viewpoint of liquor composition. It also studied the combustion behavior of BL droplets obtained from two biorefining subprocesses (carbonation and hot-water pretreatment, HWP) and sulfur-free pulping alternatives (soda-anthraquinone (AQ) and oxygen-alkali pulping). The formation of a plastic state essential for the swelling of BL droplet was found to result from the melting of an array of carbohydrate-derived aliph…
Energetic demands and nutritional strategies of elite cross-country skiers during Tour de Ski : A narrative review
2021
The Tour de Ski (TDS: 6–9 sprint and distance races across 9–11 days) represents the most intense competition series of the cross-country (XC) ski season and is characterized by accumulated stress from consecutive days of high-intensity (~ 85%–160% VO2max) racing, travel, cold temperatures and low to moderate altitude (500–1500 m above sea level). Here, nutritional strategies play a key supportive role for optimized health, recovery and performance. This narrative review aims to provide an evidence-based discussion on the energetic demands of the TDS and recommendations for nutritional strategies to optimize health and performance of XC skiers during and following the TDS. We highlight seve…
Ohjausvuorovaikutuksen laatu ja esiopettajien työhyvinvointi: kontekstitekijöiden ja työstä palautumisen merkitys
2022
PNRR E RIFLESSI SULLA FORMA DI GOVERNO ITALIANA. UN RITORNO ALL'INDIRIZZO POLITICO NORMATIVO?
2021
The work intends to analyse the impact on the governance of the decision-making, implementation and monitoring process of the PNRR. Starting from the «Dispositive» for recovery and resilience, one of the Next Generation EU most important instruments, from the relative negotiations and the European regulatory background, the paper briefly describes the procedural and content profiles of the PNRR drawn up by the Italian government in order to investigate the effects that this may have on the dynamics of the form of government and therefore also on the relations between the executive and the legislative, and in particular on which role the Parliament will be able to define for itself. The fil …
The acute effects of massage on muscle tone and perceived recovery
2008
Haakana, Piia 2008. The acute effects of massage on muscle tone and perceived recovery. Department of biology of physical activity, University of Jyväskylä. Bachelor’s thesis. 47 pp. The physiological effects of massage have been controversial in previous studies. There is one previous study on effects of massage on muscle tone but there were no effects during one month intervention. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlations between subcutaneous tissue and rectus femoris muscle thickness and muscle tone. The differences on muscle tone between groups that received massage immediately or one day after the resistance training were examined. The effects of massage on perceived…
Subjective stress, objective heart rate variability-based stress, and recovery on workdays among overweight and psychologically distressed individual…
2015
Background: The present study aimed to investigate how subjective self-reported stress is associated with objective heart rate variability (HRV)-based stress and recovery on workdays. Another aim was to investigate how physical activity (PA), body composition, and age are associated with subjective stress, objective stress, and recovery. Methods: Working-age participants (n = 221; 185 women, 36 men) in this cross-sectional study were overweight (body mass index, 25.3-40.1 kg/m(2)) and psychologically distressed (>= 3/12 points on the General Health Questionnaire). Objective stress and recovery were based on HRV recordings over 1-3 workdays. Subjective stress was assessed by the Perceived St…
