Square wave voltammetric determination of the redox state of a reversibly oxidized/reduced depolarizer in solution and in solid state

2012

Abstract Square wave voltammetric measurements allows for determining the composition of system containing a reversibly reducible/oxidable electroactive species in two oxidation states. The method is based on recording the ratio of reverse to forward peak currents. That ratio can be correlated with the molar fraction of the oxidized (or reduced) form of the depolarizer. The method was compared with cyclic voltammetric methods suggested in literature and it was tested using Fe ( CN ) 6 3 - / Fe ( CN ) 6 4 - in solution phase. Application to solid state systems is illustrated by the dehydroindigo/indigo couple in synthetic Maya Blue-type specimens prepared from indigo plus different clays whe…

A Fully Automated Assembly Using Solenoid Valves for the Photodegradation and Chemiluminometric Determination of the Herbicide Chlorsulfuron

2005

Abstract This paper presents a new photochemiluminescent system for the determination of chlorsulfuron in water samples. The light from a low‐pressure mercury lamp is used as a clean, reproducible, and inexpensive “reagent” for the derivation of the pesticide, performed in glycine buffer at pH 9.5. Then, the photo‐products from irradiation are oxidized by permanganate in sulfuric acid solution. The oxidation reaction was favored by using high temperatures. A comparative study and discussion about the use of polyphosphoric acid instead of sulfuric acid in the oxidation reaction is also presented. The use of solenoid valves allows for the easy, complete automation of the process with low samp…

Simultaneous homogeneous immunoassay of phenytoin and phenobarbital using a Nafion-loaded carbon paste electrode and two redox cationic labels

1997

Abstract The dual-analyte homogeneous immunoassay of two antiepileptic drugs was carried out simultaneously at physiological pH by square-wave voltammetry at a Nafion-loaded carbon paste electrode. Phenobarbital (PB) and phenytoin (DPH) were labeled by a cobaltocenium salt (Cc+) and a ferroceneammonium salt (N+Fc), respectively, and the corresponding standard redox potentials were −1.05 V and 0.26 V. Detection limits of 0.25 and 0.2 μM were achieved for PB-Cc+ and DPH-N+Fc (S/N = 3) after a 5-minute accumulation step, with linear responses over the 0.25–5 and 0.2–5 μM ranges, respectively. The relative standard deviation was evaluated to be ≥ 11% for 1 μM of each labeled drug. The separate,…

Thermal Lens Spectrometric Detection of Catecholamines after Oxidation to Aminochromes

1992

Abstract Experimental conditions for the spectrophotometric and thermal lens spectrometry (TLS) detection of catecholamines after oxidation to aminochromes with hexacyanoferrate (III) are optimized. At the low concentrations used in TLS, and in a 0.07 M citrate buffer, catecholamine oxidation can be performed at pH 7 and is immediate, whereas a lower pH value is required in spectrophotometry to avoid aminochrome polymerisation, the oxidation reactions being much slower. Similar TLS sensitivities are obtained for all catecholamines which facilitates HPLC evaluation. Sensitivity can be enhanced using a 50% ethanol-water medium. The linear dynamic range extends over two orders of magnitude, th…

Dialkyl(butadiene)cyclopentadienylmolybdenum(III) Complexes. Synthesis, Characterization, and Reactivity

2000

International audience; Treatment of CpMo(η4-diene)Cl2 (diene = 1,3-butadiene, C4H6, 1‘; isoprene, C5H8, 1‘ ‘; 2,3-dimethyl-1,3-butadiene, C6H10, 1‘ ‘) in diethyl ether at low temperature with 2 equiv of alkylmagnesium RMgX reagents affords the corresponding dialkyl complexes CpMo(η4-1,3-diene)R2 (2, 2‘, 2‘ ‘, R = CH3, a; CH2Ph, b; CH2SiMe3, c). These species are isolable in moderate yields and have been fully characterized by EPR, elemental analyses, and cyclic voltammetry. They all show a reversible reduction process at relatively low potentials and an irreversible oxidation. The structure of 2‘ ‘a was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The mixed complex CpMo(η4-C4H6)Cl(CH3), …

Versatile redox reactivity of triaryl-meso-substituted Ni(ii) porphyrin

2014

The electrochemical oxidation of nickel(II) 5,15-p-ditolyl-10-phenylporphyrin (1-Ni) leads to the formation of different coupling products, with the distribution depending on the nature of the solvent (CH2Cl2–CH3CN, CH2Cl2, DMF), the cell configuration (2 or 3 compartments) and the number of electrons abstracted. In a two compartment configuration (anode and cathode in the same compartment) in a CH2Cl2–CH3CN mixture, nickel(II) 5-chloro-10,20-p-ditolyl-15-phenylporphyrin (1-Ni-Cl) was isolated in good yield and its mechanism of formation is proposed. Switching to the three compartment configuration, the meso-β/meso-β doubly fused dimer (3-Ni) is detected as the major product whereas in pure…

Computational Screening of Doped Graphene Electrodes for Alkaline CO2 Reduction

2020

The electrocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) is considered as one of the most promising approaches to synthesizing carbonaceous fuels and chemicals without utilizing fossil resources. However, current technologies are still in the early phase focusing primarily on identifying optimal electrode materials and reaction conditions. Doped graphene-based materials are among the best CO2RR electrocatalysts and in the present work we have performed a computational screening study to identify suitable graphene catalysts for CO2RR to CO under alkaline conditions. Several types of modified-graphene frame…

INVESTIGATION OF ELECTRODE MATERIAL-REDOX COUPLE FOR REVERSE ELECTRODYALISIS PROCESSES. PART I: IRON REDOX COUPLES.

2012

The performances of electrodialysis (ED) and reverse electrodialysis (RED) processes depend on several factors, including the nature of the electrode material and of the redox couple adopted to make possible the conversion between electric power and chemical potential. In this paper, the possible utilization of iron-based redox couples (FeCl3/FeCl2, hexacyanoferrate(III)/hexacyanoferrate(II) and Fe(III)-EDTA/Fe(II)-EDTA) on graphite and DSA electrodes for RED processes was studied by a detailed experimental investigation. The hexacyanoferrate(III)/hexacyanoferrate(II) system was stable for lonf time (more than 12 days) in the absence of light and oxygen at high redox couple concentrations a…

Energy generation and abatement of Acid Orange 7 in reverse electrodialysis cells using salinity gradients

2015

Abstract The simultaneous generation of electric energy and the treatment of wastewaters contaminated by an organic pollutant resistant to conventional biological processes, Acid Orange 7 (AO7), was achieved for the first time using proper redox processes by reverse electrodialysis using salinity gradients. The stack was fed with two aqueous solutions with different concentrations of NaCl and a synthetic wastewater contaminated by AO7. Various electrochemical approaches including electro-Fenton, electrogeneration of active chlorine (IOAC) and coupled process were performed in a stack equipped with 40–60 cell pairs and studied by focused electrolyses. The effect of the number of cell pairs a…
