Interaction with Information Graphics: A Content-Based Approach

Understanding information graphics rely on thought process of graphics' reader, and thinking has the most important role in interpretation and exploitation. We are interested in the cognitive mechanisms underlying interaction with information graphics. In this study, we studied those cognitive processes which are employed when interacting with information graphics. Based on these experiments, we have separated four different types of thought processes which occur during the interactions with information graphics. We propose that these thought processes are apperception, restructuring, reflection and construction.

Superficial oxidation of molybdenum at high pressure and low temperature: RHEED and AES analyses of the molybdenum oxide formation

Abstract Numerous studies relate to the interaction of the molybdenum surface with oxygen at low pressure and high temperature. They give results about oxygen chemisorption, surface facetting and the epitaxial formation of MoO 2 crystallites. This work deals with the interaction of Mo(100), Mo(110) and Mo(111) surfaces with oxygen at high pressure (10 4 Pa) and low temperature (620–820 K). RHEED and AES analyses results prove that, in these oxidation conditions: MoO 2 and non-stoichiometric molybdenum oxide such as Mo 4 O 11 are not evidenced in any of the molybdenum oxidation steps. High-Pressure Softening of the Out-of-Plane A2u(Transverse-Optic) Mode of Hexagonal Boron Nitride Induced by Dynamical Buckling

We investigate the highly anisotropic behavior of the in-plane and out-of-plane infrared-active phonons of hexagonal boron nitride by means of infrared reflectivity and absorption measurements under high pressure. Infrared reflectivity spectra at normal incidence on high-quality single crystals show strict fulfillment of selection rules and an unusually long E1u[transverse-optic (TO)] phonon lifetime. Accurate values of the dielectric constants at ambient pressure ϵ0= 6.96, ϵ∞= 4.95, ϵ 0= 3.37, and ϵ∞ = 2.84 have been determined from fits to the reflectivity spectra. Photonic transfer through subwavelength optical waveguides

Optical tunneling effect through dielectric junctions with subwavelength transverse sizes has been demonstrated some years ago. In this letter, we demonstrate how similar effects can be exploited to perform photonic transfer through a subwavelength optical wave guide (SOW) by structuring its optical index along the direction of propagation. The optical transmittance of the SOW is computed self-consistently in direct space through the numerical solution of a Dyson equation. We apply this scheme to investigate the optical properties of different SOW architectures.
