Weakly continuous mappings on Banach spaces

Abstract It is shown that every n -homogeneous continuous polynomial on a Banach space E which is weakly continuous on the unit ball of E is weakly uniformly continuous on the unit ball of E . Applications of the result to spaces of polynomials and holomorphic mappings on E are given.

Geometry of spaces of compact operators

We introduce the notion of compactly locally reflexive Banach spaces and show that a Banach space X is compactly locally reflexive if and only if $\mathcal{K}(Y,X^{**})\subseteq\mathcal{K}(Y,X)^{**}$ for all reflexive Banach spaces Y. We show that X * has the approximation property if and only if X has the approximation property and is compactly locally reflexive. The weak metric approximation property was recently introduced by Lima and Oja. We study two natural weak compact versions of this property. Envelopes of open sets and extending holomorphic functions on dual Banach spaces

We investigate certain envelopes of open sets in dual Banach spaces which are related to extending holomorphic functions. We give a variety of examples of absolutely convex sets showing that the extension is in many cases not possible. We also establish connections to the study of iterated weak* sequential closures of convex sets in the dual of separable spaces.

Norm continuity and related notions for semigroups on Banach spaces

We find some conditions on a c0-semigroup on a Banach space and its resolvent connected with the norm continuity of the semigroup. We use them to get characterizations of norm continuous, eventually norm continuous and eventually compact semigroups on Hilbert spaces in terms of the growth of the resolvent of their generator.

Characterizations of convex approximate subdifferential calculus in Banach spaces

International audience; We establish subdifferential calculus rules for the sum of convex functions defined on normed spaces. This is achieved by means of a condition relying on the continuity behaviour of the inf-convolution of their corresponding conjugates, with respect to any given topology intermediate between the norm and the weak* topologies on the dual space. Such a condition turns out to also be necessary in Banach spaces. These results extend both the classical formulas by Hiriart-Urruty and Phelps and by Thibault.
