Manifestation of Curie-Weiss law for optical phase transition
2001
Considerable slowing down is observed for both the temporal development of the coherent oscillation slightly above the threshold and the refractive index grating decay slightly below the threshold for a semilinear photorefractive oscillator with two counter-propagating pump waves. It is shown that in the vicinity of the threshold the reciprocal characteristic time is a linear function of deviation from the threshold coupling strength. This behaviour is similar to an empirical Curie–Weiss law and points to the analogy of the oscillation threshold to a second-order phase transition.
Stimulated emission control in Photonic Crystals: Strong coupling regime in QNM approach
2006
Stimulated emission, in strong coupling regime, in a one dimensional photonic crystals is described by considering two counter-propagating pumps. Quasi normal mode approach is used and coherent control of the Rabi splitting is discussed.
Parametric self-trapping in the presence of randomized quasi phase matching
2010
We report on experimental evidence of parametric spatial solitons in a quadratic crystal with randomized periodic ferroelectric poling. Two-color self-focusing via quadratic cascading overcomes the diffractive nature of both fundamental and frequency-doubled beams.
Integrated frequency shifter in periodically poled lithium tantalate waveguide
2010
A frequency shifting device is fabricated and tested in a ferroelectric waveguide in a low-photorefractivity crystal. Periodic poling for quasi-phase-matching and channels for operation in the near-infrared C-band were obtained in congruent lithium tantalate, demonstrating for the first time both wave confinement and two-stage parametric conversion in such waveguides.
Dynamics of four-wave-mixing oscillators with quasi-phase-matching
2009
The effect of pump-wave misalignment on the oscillation spectra of a semilinear photorefractive oscillator is studied numerically and compared with the results of experiments performed with ${\text{BaTiO}}_{3}:\text{Co}$ and ${\text{KNbO}}_{3}:\text{Ag},\text{Fe}$ crystals.
The dependence of dichroism in VUV-photoemission on the optical properties of adsorbates: Cs-monolayer on W(110)
1998
Abstract We report on the dependence of dichroic photoemission excited by polarised light on the angle of photon incidence. We measured the difference in the angle-resolved photoemission intensities from Cs-5p semi-corelevels excited by photons of opposite helicity, known as CDAD and of orthogonal linear polarisation—LDAD. We found that the dependence of dichroism on the angle of incidence can not be described by the equations used in the photoemission model for free atomic states. A complex consideration of the parallel and perpendicular components of the vector potential of the exciting light is needed, including the phase shift between these components. The phase shift is produced by the…
COST 241 intercomparison of nonlinear refractive index measurements in dispersion shifted optical fibres at =1550 nm
1997
COST 241 measurements of the nonlinear refractive index, n/sub 2/, exhibit a large scatter depending on the specific measurement technique. This is largely due to the electrostrictive contribution to the Kerr nonlinearity, as is revealed by the resonant behaviour of n/sub 2/ (with peak values up to 3.9 10/sup -20/ m/sup 2/ W/sup -1/) observed with signal modulation frequencies in the 0.11 GHz range.
Influence of oxygen vacancies on the photorefractive effect in barium titanate single crystals
1990
Abstract In this work the influence of the vacancies concentration in pure BaTiO3 single crystals is studied. It is shown that the oxidation and the reduction do not change the electrooptic coefficients. The reduction modifies the nature of the majority carriers. An evaluation of the trap density N is done.
Genetic variants linked to myopic macular degeneration in persons with high myopia: CREAM Consortium.
2019
Purpose: To evaluate the roles of known myopia-associated genetic variants for development of myopic macular degeneration (MMD) in individuals with high myopia (HM), using case-control studies from the Consortium of Refractive Error and Myopia (CREAM). Methods: A candidate gene approach tested 50 myopia-associated loci for association with HM and MMD, using meta-analyses of case-control studies comprising subjects of European and Asian ancestry aged 30 to 80 years from 10 studies. Fifty loci with the strongest associations with myopia were chosen from a previous published GWAS study. Highly myopic (spherical equivalent [SE] ≤ -5.0 diopters [D]) cases with MMD (N = 348), and two sets of cont…
Smartphone viewing distance during active or passive tasks and relation to heterophoria
2019
Our aim was to analyze viewing distance for smartphone users (aged 18-45 y.) in terms of passive or active task, relation to heterophoria, type of refractive error and smartphone font size. Participants were asked to read out loud text message (passive task) and afterwards rewrite the same text and send back (active task). For the text message we used sentence consisting of 23 words and 200 characters (with spaces). Participants used their own smartphones (font size monitored). For both passive and active task we measured task time and viewing distance at the end of the task. We found significantly shorter viewing distance for digital active task compared to passive task (29.3 ± 4.7 and 32.…
