Electrophysiology of sensory neuropathies

1995

In sensory neuropathy maximal conduction velocity is a crude measure. Variations up to 10 m/s have to be considered normal. The relation to clinical impairment is poor in either axonal/neuronal lesions or demyelination as indicated by a small normal latency and a delayed broad polyphasic nerve action potential (NAP), respectively. Conduction block evaluated on NAP changes has not yet been established. Mild disorder of impulse conduction may be disclosed by evaluating a) conduction along long nerve segments studying the H-reflex or SSEP, b) late components of the averaged NAP which make > 10% of the main deflection, c) velocities of slow conducting fibers utilizing the collision technique or…

Formation of refractory metal nuggets and their link to the history of CAIs

2015

Abstract Ca, Al-rich inclusions (CAIs) often contain numerous refractory metal nuggets (RMNs), consisting of elements like Os, Ir, Mo, Pt and Ru. The nuggets are usually thought to have formed by equilibrium condensation from a gas of solar composition, simultaneously with or prior to oxide and silicate minerals. However, the exact mechanisms responsible for their extremely variable compositions, small sizes and associations with CAI minerals remain puzzling. Expanding on previous work on chemically separated RMNs, we have studied a large number of RMNs within their host CAIs from three different meteorite types, i.e., the highly primitive chondrite Acfer 094 (C2-ungrouped), Allende (CV3 ox…

Composition and clues to the origin of refractory metal nuggets extracted from chondritic meteorites

2014

Refractory metal nuggets (RMNs) contain elements, such as Os, Ir, Mo, and Ru, which are predicted to condense from a cooling gas of solar composition simultaneously with CAI-minerals. Berg et al. (2009) identified a large number of RMNs in acid-resistant residues of the Murchison meteorite and suggested that they are pristine condensates. In extending the work of these authors, we have improved the chemical extraction process to enrich the concentration of RMNs in the residue sample and prepared three additional RMN-rich residues from the chondritic meteorites Murchison, Allende, and Leoville. The results show that, while their origin is clearly solar, the compositions in detail of RMNs fro…

Highly siderophile elements (Re, Os, Ir, Ru, Rh, Pd, Au) in impact melts from three European impact craters (Sääksjärvi, Mien, and Dellen): Clues to …

1997

Twenty-two large (10 g) impact melt samples from three Scandinavian craters (i.e., Saaksjarvi, Finland; and Mien and Dellen, Sweden) were analyzed for highly siderophile elements (HSE: platinum group elements, Rh, and Au) by the nickel sulfide technique in combination with neutron activation. The ten impact melt samples from Saaksjarvi are enriched in Ir and other highly siderophile elements (Ir = 2.48 ± 0.73 ng/g) relative to average upper crust concentrations (0.03 ± 0.02 ng/g Ir). The twelve Dellen and Mien samples are marginally enriched in Ir (0.48 ± 0.23 ng/g for Dellen, and 0.37 ± 0.23 ng/g for Mien). The amount of meteoritic component corresponds to 0.5% of a nominal CI component fo…

Clues to the nature of the impacting bodies from platinum-group elements (rhenium and gold) in borehole samples from the Clearwater East crater (Cana…

1997

— Seven large (10 g) impact melt rock samples from boreholes from the Boltysh impact crater (Ukraine) and six samples from the East Clearwater crater (Canada) were analyzed for Os, Ir, Ru, Rh, Pd, Re and Au by the nickel sulfide technique in combination with neutron activation. Earlier analyses of Clearwater East impact melt rocks have shown that they are strongly enriched in Ir, Os, Pd and Re. In this work, I confirm earlier findings and demonstrate similarly high enrichments of Rh and Ru. The average Os/Ir, Ru/Ir, Pd/Ir, Rh/Ir and Ru/Rh ratios of the melt rock samples from Clearwater East are CI-chondritic and yield an average Ir content of 25.2 ± 6.5 ng/g relative to an average upper cru…

Production of refractory elements close to the Z=N line using the ion-guide technique

1998

Production of neutron-deficient isotopes of refractory elements in the A = 80-88 region was studied using the IGISOL technique and the 165 MeV Si-32 + Ni-nat reaction. Radioactive isotopes of Y through Mo could be produced up to the M-T = + 1 line. New information on the decay of the A = 82 and 85 nuclei, including a more detailed decay scheme and more accurate half-life for Y-82, was obtained. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. DARATUMUMAB, BORTEZOMIB AND DEXAMETHASONE (DVD) VS BORTEZOMIB AND DEXAMETHASONE (VD) IN RELAPSED OR REFRACTORY MULTIPLE MYELOMA (RRMM): EFFICACY AND …

2017

8036 Background: Daratumumab (D), a human, CD38-targeting mAb, is well tolerated and induces deep and durable responses in patients (pts) with RRMM. We provide an update of CASTOR (NCT02136134), a multicenter, phase 3, randomized study of DVd vs Vd in RRMM. Methods: All pts received ≥1 prior line of therapy (LOT) and were administered 8 cycles (Q3W) of Vd (1.3 mg/m2 SC bortezomib on days 1, 4, 8, and 11; 20 mg PO/IV dexamethasone on days 1-2, 4-5, 8-9, and 11-12) ± D (16 mg/kg IV once weekly in Cycles 1-3, every 3 weeks for Cycles 4-8, then every 4 weeks until progression). Bortezomib-refractory pts were ineligible. Minimal residual disease (MRD) was assessed upon suspected CR and at 6 and…

Mitomycin 'C' and vinorelbine as second line chemotherapy for metastatic breast carcinoma

1994

Aims and background Patients with metastatic breast carcinoma resistant to first line chemotherapy may require further treatment. Results o second line chemotherapy are still largerly unsatisfactory. For this reason a phase II study on the combination of mitomycin C and vinorelbine was carried out. Methods Forty patients with anthracycline pretreated metastatic breast cancer were treated with a combination of mitomycin C 10 mg/m2 i.v. on day 1, and vinorelbine 25 mg/m2 i.v. on days 1 and 8. This cycle was repeated every 28 days. Responses were evaluated according to the WHO criteria. Results A major objective response was recorded in 16 cases (40%; 95% confidence limits 32%-48%), with 2 pat…

Evolving patterns of care and outcomes in relapsed/refractory FLT3 mutated acute myeloid leukemia adult patients.

2021

We have analyzed treatment patterns and outcomes of relapsed/refractory(R/R) FLT3mut AML adult patients registered in our institutional data base between 1998 and 2018. Overall, 147 patients were evaluable: 34 from 1998 to 2009, 113 from 2010 to 2018. Salvage treatments were intensive chemotherapy ( n = 25, 74%), and supportive care ( n = 9, 26%) in the 1998-2009 period, and intensive chemotherapy ( n = 63, 56%), hypomethylating agent ( n = 7, 6%), low-dose cytarabine-based ( n = 8, 7%), clinical trial ( n = 16, 14%) and supportive care ( n = 19, 17%) in the 2010-2018 period. Complete remission (CR) or with incomplete recovery (CRi) rate was 44%, 49% among patients treated intensively (vs 3…
