This chapter presents and discusses two cases of regional upgrading involving public-run universities in two Northern European countries, Norway and the Netherlands. More specifically, it illuminates how academic groups associated with the field of medicine took pro-active steps to establish and further develop regional coalitions which, over time, have resulted in situated learning. Abstract The national tourism development master plan for the period 2007-2026 focuses on tourism resources of the regions. The regional tourism development strategy should have the opportunities and threats that are found in every county of the region as guide marks. Their identification leads to facilitate the implementation of tourism development strategy, the opportunity maximum use being the revival and growth ramp of tourist activities, preventing threats ensure the proper functioning of the implementation process. Abstract The article is devoted to statistical analysis of information and communication technology (ICT) industry in Latvia and the development of Information Society in the country. On the basis of statistical data comparison of Latvia with other European countries is made. This comparison shows that Latvia belongs to countries with very well developed Internet. On the other hand the statistical data points on the fact that it is necessary to increase the awareness of population regarding possibilities offered by using of ICT and e-Government.

This study investigates broadband policies applied in Finland and Sweden with special reference to the geographical coverage of the required network infrastructure. These two Nordic countries are seen as forerunners in the development of the information society, and they also share several other similarities bearing relevance to the take-up of broadband.
