The considerations contained in this article focus on the significance of regional education in preschool and school education. Regional education is a relatively young pedagogical conception, which appeared in the literaturę at the beginning of the 1990s. It is inseparably connected with that of regionalism defined as ”a return to one’s own roots”. The assumptions behind regional education and its content are formulated on the basis of the core curriculum of comprehensive education at indrndual stages of teaching. It makes a vital element in the program of teaching native language, history, geography and other school subjects.

In the paper, the author presents the position of sociologists and educators talking about the regional education. He compares their interpretations concerning the basie terms, such as: regionalism, cultural heritage, regional education, or regional identity. The article is a reflection showing the influence of ”the global village” and glocalisation on the formation of regional enclaves striving for the broadly understood identity. The leitmotiv of discussion is the sentence: ”think globally-act locally.”

Hence, regions are constantly forced to adapt their social and economic structures to changing conditions. The competitiveness of regions rests largely on networking and cooperation of various regional actors from the private, public and third sector. The author takes up the language Ervin Goj’s poetry, a regional lachian poet who has written his poems between the years 1931-1977 under the pen name Óndra Łyhorsky. She analyses the meaning of two colours, namely white and black, which in the European culture symbolize the opposition light – dark, good – bad: white symbolizes innocence, truth, purity, simplicity, honesty, while black symbolizes evil, falsehood, nothingness, mourning, atonement.
