Hyperboloidal slicing approach to quasinormal mode expansions: The Reissner-Nordström case

2018

We study quasi-normal modes of black holes, with a focus on resonant (or quasi-normal mode) expansions, in a geometric frame based on the use of conformal compactifications together with hyperboloidal foliations of spacetime. Specifically, this work extends the previous study of Schwarzschild in this geometric approach to spherically symmetric asymptotically flat black hole spacetimes, in particular Reissner-Nordstr\"om. The discussion involves, first, the non-trivial technical developments needed to address the choice of appropriate hyperboloidal slices in the extended setting as well as the generalization of the algorithm determining the coefficients in the expansion of the solution in te…

Data analysis procedures for pulse ELDOR measurements of broad distance distributions

2004

The reliability of procedures for extracting the distance distribution between spins from the dipolar evolution function is studied with particular emphasis on broad distributions. A new numerically stable procedure for fitting distance distributions with polynomial interpolation between sampling points is introduced and compared to Tikhonov regularization in the dipolar frequency and distance domains and to approximate Pake transformation. Distance distributions with only narrow peaks are most reliably extracted by distance-domain Tikhonov regularization, while frequency-domain Tikhonov regularization is favorable for distributions with only broad peaks. For the quantification of distribut…

Torus computed tomography

2020

We present a new computed tomography (CT) method for inverting the Radon transform in 2D. The idea relies on the geometry of the flat torus, hence we call the new method Torus CT. We prove new inversion formulas for integrable functions, solve a minimization problem associated to Tikhonov regularization in Sobolev spaces and prove that the solution operator provides an admissible regularization strategy with a quantitative stability estimate. This regularization is a simple post-processing low-pass filter for the Fourier series of a phantom. We also study the adjoint and the normal operator of the X-ray transform on the flat torus. The X-ray transform is unitary on the flat torus. We have i…

Iterative Regularization Techniques in Image Reconstruction

2000

In this survey we review recent developments concerning the efficient iterative regularization of image reconstruction problems in atmospheric imaging. We present a number of preconditioners for the minimization of the corresponding Tikhonov functional, and discuss the alternative of terminating the iteration early, rather than adding a stabilizing term in the Tikhonov functional. The methods are examplified for a (synthetic) model problem.

Regularization of perturbed state-dependent sweeping processes with nonregular sets

2018

International audience; In this paper, we prove the convergence strongly pointwisely (up to a subsequence) of Moreau-Yosida regularization of perturbed state-dependent sweeping process with nonregular (subsmooth and positively alpha-far) sets in separable Hilbert spaces. Some relevant consequences are indicated.

Finiteness properties of pseudo-hyperbolic varieties

2019

Motivated by Lang-Vojta's conjecture, we show that the set of dominant rational self-maps of an algebraic variety over a number field with only finitely many rational points in any given number field is finite by combining Amerik's theorem for dynamical systems of infinite order with properties of Prokhorov-Shramov's notion of quasi-minimal models. We also prove a similar result in the geometric setting by using again Amerik's theorem and Prokhorov-Shramov's notion of quasi-minimal model, but also Weil's regularization theorem for birational self-maps and properties of dynamical degrees. Furthermore, in the geometric setting, we obtain an analogue of Kobayashi-Ochiai's finiteness result for…

Fourier analysis of periodic Radon transforms

2019

We study reconstruction of an unknown function from its $d$-plane Radon transform on the flat $n$-torus when $1 \leq d \leq n-1$. We prove new reconstruction formulas and stability results with respect to weighted Bessel potential norms. We solve the associated Tikhonov minimization problem on $H^s$ Sobolev spaces using the properties of the adjoint and normal operators. One of the inversion formulas implies that a compactly supported distribution on the plane with zero average is a weighted sum of its X-ray data.

Low energy structure of the nucleon from chiral effective field theory

2014

We present some updated results regarding the scalar and electromagnetic structure of the nucleon obtained by the relativistic formulation of chiral effective field theory with baryons. We compare them with previous determinations available in the literature, and show their relevance for searches of physics beyond the standard model in the low energy frontier. An accurate knowledge of the structure of the nucleon is important to improve our understanding of the funda- mental interactions and provide theoretical estimations of some important quantities with a small uncertainty. This is specially relevant for experiential searches of physics be- yond the standard model in the low energy front…

Pinch technique to all orders

2002

The generalization of the pinch technique to all orders in perturbation theory is presented. The effective Green's functions constructed with this procedure are singled out in a unique way through the full exploitation of the underlying Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin symmetry. A simple all-order correspondence between the pinch technique and the background field method in the Feynman gauge is established.
