Entanglement entropy in a periodically driven quantum Ising chain

We numerically study the dynamics of entanglement entropy, induced by an oscillating time periodic driving of the transverse field, h(t), of a one-dimensional quantum Ising chain. We consider several realizations of h(t), and we find a number of results in analogy with entanglement entropy dynamics induced by a sudden quantum quench. After short-time relaxation, the dynamics of entanglement entropy synchronises with h(t), displaying an oscillatory behaviour at the frequency of the driving. Simultaneous Synthesis and Consolidation of Nanostructured MoSi2

A new process combining electric field activation and the imposition of pressure from mechanically activated powder mixtures is demonstrated as a means to simultaneously synthesize and densify nano-MoSi2 in one step. Nanophase reactants (Mo + 2Si) produced by mechanical activation are reacted by field activation with the simultaneous application of a uniaxial pressure. Mo + 2Si powders were comilled in a specially designed planetary mill to obtain nanometric reactants but to avoid formation of any product phases. An investigation into the fracture behaviour of honeycombs with density gradients

International audience; In this study we perform an experimental and computational investigation about the fracture behaviour of polymer honeycombs presenting gradients in terms of lattice density. Such lattice relative density variations are introduced with the aim of mimicking the micro-morphology encountered in some natural materials, such as several kinds of woods, which seems related to the ability of the corresponding macro-material to delay the propagation of fracture under certain conditions. Influence of Sr addition on structural, dielectric and Raman properties of Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3ceramics

ABSTRACTLead free (Na0.5Bi0.5)1-xSrxTiO3 (x = 0, 0.01 and 0.02) ceramics were produced by a conventional solid-state sintering method. X-ray diffraction analysis shows that the obtained samples possess the perovskite structure with rhombohedral symmetry. The microstructure study shows a dense structure, in agreement with the relative density (above 97%). Dielectric analysis revealed the diffuse character of the electric permittivity anomalies and their shift to a lower temperature range after Sr doping of NBT. The Raman spectra are similar for all samples in agreement with the X-ray diffraction data. The possible origin of the observed effects was discussed.

Heterogeneous Interactions between Gas-Phase Pyruvic Acid and Hydroxylated Silica Surfaces: A Combined Experimental and Theoretical Study

The adsorption of gas-phase pyruvic acid (CH3COCOOH) on hydroxylated silica particles has been investigated at 296 K using transmission Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and theoretical simulations. Under dry conditions (<1% relative humidity, RH), both the trans-cis (Tc) and trans-trans (Tt) pyruvic acid conformers are observed on the surface as well as the (hydrogen bonded) pyruvic acid dimer. The detailed surface interactions were further understood through ab initio molecular dynamics simulations. Spectral alignment of multi-temporal cross-sensor images with automated kernel canonical correlation analysis

In this paper we present an approach to perform relative spectral alignment between optical cross-sensor acquisitions. The proposed method aims at projecting the images from two different and possibly disjoint input spaces into a common latent space, in which standard change detection algorithms can be applied. The system relies on the regularized kernel canonical correlation analysis transformation (kCCA), which can accommodate nonlinear dependencies between pixels by means of kernel functions.
