Permittivity Measurements of Lossy Liquids at Millimeter-Wave Frequencies

1983

A measurement system is described which allows the determination of the complex permittivity of high-loss liquids at millimeter waves. Basically, the setup consists of a waveguide interferometer whose unknown arm embodies a liquid holder irradiated by an open-ended rectangular waveguide. The sample thickness is varied by means of a piston driven by a micrometer screw. The bridge output then is read as a function of the liquid thickness. Best fitting between experimental and computed data through a suitable model of the system enables the permittivity to be determined. The system can operate, with high sensitivity, over the whole frequency range of the dominant mode propagating in the wavegu…

Relation of Dielectric Permittivity and Electric Field Dependence of Polarization in Some Relaxors with Perovskite Structure

2011

The dielectric nonlinearity is studied in ferroelectric relaxors 0.92PbMg1/3 Nb2/3O3-0.08PbTiO3, 0.4Na1/2Bi1/2TiO3-0.5SrTiO3-0.1PbTiO3 and Pb0.9075La0.0925 (Zr0.65Ti0.35)0.9775O3. It is shown that above the temperature of dielectric permittivity maximum nonlinearity of dielectric permittivity corresponds to electric field dependence of polarization. The influence of electric field on distribution of relaxation times is studied below the maximum of dielectric permittivity. The role of internal bias field in Pb0.9075La0.0925(Zr0.65Ti0.35)0.9775O3 ceramics is discussed.

Dielectric polarization in PLZT X/65/35 and PbMg1/3Nb2/3O3at the diffuse phase transition

1992

Abstract The transformation of the hysteresis loops in PLZT x/65/35 in the region of diffuse phase transition is discussed in relation to the behaviour of dielectric permittivity. The Vogel-Fulcher type dielectric relaxation is used to describe the discussed phenomena.

Influence of dissipative tunneling on the photodielectric effect associated with the excitation of impurity complexes A+ + e in a quasi-zero-dimensio…

2022

Effect of tunneling decay for the quasi-stationary A+-state, in an impurity complex A+ + e (a hole, localized on a neutral acceptor, interacting with an electron, localized in the ground state of a quantum dot) on the photodielectric effect, associated with the excitation of impurity complexes A+ + e in a quasi-zero-dimensional structure, has been studied in the zero-radius potential model in the one-instanton approximation. Calculation of the binding energy of a hole in an impurity complex A+ + e was performed in the zero radius potential model in the adiabatic approximation. It is shown that as the probability of dissipative tunneling increases, the binding energy of a hole in a complex A…

Broadband Dielectric Investigation of Sodium Potassium Niobate Ceramic Doped 8% of Antimony

2012

In this work we present dielectric permittivity measurement results of KNN ceramic doped antimony (K0.5Na0.5)(Nb0.92Sb0.08)O3 with sintering aid MnO2 (0.5 mol% MnO2) (KNNSbx + 0.5Mn). Its dielectric properties were investigated in broad frequency (from 20 Hz to 32 GHz) and temperature (from 26 K to 780K) ranges. Above room temperature obtained results show two diffused phase transitions. Below room temperature investigation revealed dielectric permittivity dispersion similar to the relaxor one. The obtained mean relaxation times fulfills Arrhenius relationship with dipole activation energy Ea/kB = 2282 K.

Heat Capacity and Dielectric Properties of the PNN-PT Ferroelectric Ceramics

2012

A study of dielectric permittivity and heat capacity of the (1-х)PbNi1/3Nb2/3O3 – хPbTiO3 solid solution system (x = 0.3, 0.4, 0.5) within the 290–700 K range is reported. Temperatures of phase transitions Tm determined from maximums of dielectric permittivity ϵ depends on the content of PbTiO3. A broad phase transition is shown to proceed in the 0.7PbNi1/3Nb2/3O3–0.3PbTiO3 composition around 312 K. Specific to phase transitions anomalous heat capacity is observed at Т ≈ 520 K in all compositions studied.

Dicyanobenzothiadiazole Derivatives Possessing Switchable Dielectric Permittivities

2017

Benzothiadiazoles are important electron acceptors and are frequently employed as electron-deficient components of donor-acceptor polymers. We report the effect of nitrile functionalities on the reactivity, steric hindrance, optoelectronic properties, and dielectric permittivity in dicyanobenzothioadiazole (DCNBT). Dielectric spectroscopy in the bulk and in solution assisted by DFT-calculations revealed that these molecules can be engineered to engender maximum values of the dipole moment and of dielectric permittivity due to the strong electron-withdrawing effect of the nitrile groups. The self-assembly in the bulk was investigated by X-ray scattering performed on single crystals, fibers (…
