An experimental comparison of the K- and L-Auger electron spectra generated in the decays of 140Nd and 111In

The low-energy electron spectra generated in the decay of 140Nd have been measured using a combined electrostatic spectrometer adjusted to the 4, 7, and 35 eV instrumental resolution. In order to estimate the therapeutic potential of low-energy electrons associated with the decay of 140Nd, similar experiments have been performed with 111In. Relative Auger electron intensity ratios per decay are: 111In(K-Auger)/140Nd(K-Auger)=1.47(12), 111In(L-Auger) /140Nd(L-Auger)=1.1(4), and 111In(L-Auger [2.8-7 keV])/140Nd(L-Auger [2.8-7 keV])=0.24(11). βDelayed γRay spectroscopy of heavy neutron rich nuclei “south” of lead

Relativistic projectile fragmentation of a 208Pb primary beam has been used to produce neutron-rich nuclei with proton-holes relative to the Z = 82 shell closure, i.e., “south” of Pb. βDelayed γRay spectroscopy allows to investigate the structural properties of such nuclei with A ~ 195 → 205. The current work presents transitions de-exciting excited states in 204Au, which are the first spectroscopic information on this N = 125 isotone. Dignity and existential concerns among nursing homes residents from the perspective of their relatives

Aims and objectives: The aim of this cross-country Scandinavian study was to explore how residents in nursing homes experience that their dignity is promoted and attended to. This is one part of the Scandinavian project in which we interviewed residents, relatives and staff members. Background: The main subject concerns the dignity of residents of nursing homes for older people. Mapping field-scale spatial patterns of size and activity of the denitrifier community

International audience; There is ample evidence that microbial processes can exhibit large variations in activity on a field scale. However, very little is known about the spatial distribution of the microbial communities mediating these processes. Here we used geostatistical modelling to explore spatial patterns of size and activity of the denitrifying community, a functional guild involved in N-cycling, in a grassland field subjected to different cattle grazing regimes. Double Polarization Observables in η Electroproduction

Abstract A new measurement of beam-recoil double-polarization observables in η electroproduction at the A1 collaboration at MAMI is presented. The energy region of the S 11 ( 1525 ) resonance was covered at a four-momentum transfer of Q 2 = 0.1 GeV 2 / c 2 . It turned out, that the usual interpretation of the reaction mechanism via S 11 and D 13 resonance fails to explain the relative phase between the corresponding multipole amplitudes tested by this experiment, while the new data are still in good agreement with previous measurements.

A new approach to studying sponge cake aroma after storage in treated paper and plastic packaging by direct gas chromatography–olfactometry (D-GC–O)

The objective of this study was to use D-GC–O to compare the global odour of a sponge cake flavoured with either a ‘viennoiserie’ aromatic note or a simplified mixture of aroma compounds (used for physicochemical studies), then stored in a glass packaging (inert and impermeable) or in pouches made with treated papers or with plastic packaging, in accelerated ageing conditions (high temperature and relative humidity gradient). After 1 week of storage, the flavoured sponge cake headspace was SPME-extracted directly into the packaging and analysed by D-GC–O.
