Breast cancer in men in Cote d'Or (France): epidemiological characteristics, treatments and prognostic factors

2012

Breast cancer in men is rare, and clinical trials are thus not feasible. This study aimed to describe the epidemiological characteristics, treatment and prognostic factors of breast cancer in men. A population-based study was performed using data from the Cote d'Or breast and gynaecological cancer registry. Data on male breast cancer diagnosed from 1982 to 2008 were provided. Relative survival rates were estimated at 5 years according to the characteristics of the patient and tumour, and treatment. Prognostic factors of survival in men with breast cancer were identified using a generalised linear model. Seventy-five men with invasive breast cancer were registered. Mean age at diagnosis was …

From adjuvant to preventive breast cancer treatment: bridging the gap over troubled waters

2006

Recently, chemoprevention trials have demonstrated the efficacy of preventive medical treatment (PMT) in reducing breast cancer (BC) detection rates in at-risk affected and unaffected women selected according to clinical and/or familial risk criteria, particularly with the use of tamoxifen (TAM). Major concerns limiting the routine use of TAM are the questionable benefit/risk ratio and poor patient compliance, which justify the studies undertaken to determine the efficacy of aromatase inhibitors (AIs) with respect to TAM. Issues such as therapy duration, impact on survival, incidence of side-effects and which subsets benefit most from treatment, still remain unsolved. Therefore, only ER+ BC…

Is there any place for PD-1/CTLA-4 inhibitors combination in the first-line treatment of advanced NSCLC?—A trial-level meta-analysis in PD-L1 selecte…

2021

BACKGROUND: The advent of immuno-oncology (IO) represented a breakthrough in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) therapy over the last few years. However, establishing the optimal therapeutic options among programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) selected subgroups still addresses an unmet need in the clinical setting. METHODS: We performed a systematic review and finally included eleven first-line randomized controlled trials to compare efficacy and safety outcomes among first-line IO treatment strategies versus standard platinum-based chemotherapy (CT) according to PD-L1 expression level (<1%, 1–49%, ≥50%). Pooled hazard ratios (HRs) and risk ratios (RRs) for progression-free survival (PFS), over…

Time calibration of the ANTARES neutrino telescope

2011

The ANTARES deep-sea neutrino telescope comprises a three-dimensional array of photomultipliers to detect the Cherenkov light induced by upgoing relativistic charged particles originating from neutrino interactions in the vicinity of the detector. The large scattering length of light in the deep sea facilitates an angular resolution of a few tenths of a degree for neutrino energies exceeding 10 TeV. In order to achieve this optimal performance, the time calibration procedures should ensure a relative time calibration between the photomultipliers at the level of ~1 ns. The methods developed to attain this level of precision are described.

Humidity effect on ammonia sensing properties of substituted and unsubstituted cobalt phthalocyanines

2012

In this paper, we studied the effect of humidity on the response of cobalt phthalocyanine-containing resistors to ammonia, in the ppm range. We pointed out the fact that, when alternating exposure periods with recovery periods, the humidity effect had to be carefully studied, in correlation with the flow variation. Thus, for a sulfonated cobalt phthalocyanine, the effect of NH(3) was totally screened as soon as the relative humidity (RH) was above 10%. On the contrary, when using unsubstituted cobalt phthalocyanine (CoPc) as sensing material, the sensors' response to NH(3) appears to be quite stable in a wide RH range, allowing a discrimination between 12, 25 and 50 ppm of NH(3) over the 10…

Perceived overqualification, relative deprivation, and person-centric outcomes: The moderating role of career centrality

2018

Abstract In this study, we develop and test a model examining why and when perceived overqualification relates to career satisfaction and subjective well-being. In a sample of 143 new university graduates in Spain with data collected across two time periods, we showed that perceived overqualification interacted with career centrality to predict relative deprivation, which in turn was related to lower career satisfaction, positive affect, and life satisfaction, as well as higher negative affect. Further, perceived overqualification had negative main effects on career satisfaction, negative affect, and life satisfaction. The results suggest the importance of perceived overqualification for we…

Goal conflict and facilitation as predictors of work–family satisfaction and engagement

2008

Abstract In a study of working adults (N = 131; Mean age = 43.52 yrs; 62 males) in Germany and Finland, the mean level of goal facilitation was found to be significantly higher than that of goal interference. Hence, many individuals seem to be rather successful in constructing a personal goal system that is functional in terms of supportive links. As hypothesized, goal conflict and facilitation were associated with work-related outcomes, especially with work satisfaction. The associations with family-related outcomes were less pronounced when the focus was exclusively on either supportive or interfering goal relationships. However, when the intraindividual relation between goal conflict and…

Engaging in upward and downward comparisons as a determinant of relative deprivation at work

2003

A longitudinal study was conducted among 93 nurses to determine the role of comparing one's performance with that of one's colleagues in the increase versus decrease of perceived relative deprivation at work over a period of one year. Relative deprivation at T2 had increased particularly among those high in social comparison orientation (Gibbons & Buunk, 1999) who at T1 (1) more frequently engaged in upward comparisons; (2) more frequently derived positive as well as negative feelings from such comparisons; and (3) more frequently derived negative feelings from downward comparison. Moreover, engaging in downward comparison also led to an increase in perceived relative deprivation at T2.…

Reliability of Y-Balance Test y Wight Bearing Lunge Test for the clinical-functional evolution of plantar fasciitis

2018
