Mobile radio channel models for present and future wireless communication systems

2008

From the beginnings of mobile communication, there is a high demand for realistic models for mobile fading channels. The reason for the demand is that channel models are essential for the performance evaluation, parameter optimisation, and test of mobile communication systems. Design methods for mobile fading channels are therefore of great importance for system engineers who are involved in the development of present and future mobile communication systems. In this presentation, an overview will be given about several design methodologies commonly used for the design of mobile radio channel models in present and future wireless communication systems. All presented channel models have in co…

BEP analysis of M-ary PSK modulation schemes over double Rice fading channels with EGC

2010

In this article, the performance of M-ary phase shift keying (PSK) modulation schemes over mobile-to-mobile (M2M) fading channels with equal gain combining (EGC) in cooperative networks is analyzed. Narrowband M2M fading channels under line-of-sight (LOS) propagation conditions are modeled as double Rice processes. A dual-hop amplify-and-forward relay network, where LOS components can exist in the transmission links between the source mobile station and the destination mobile station via K mobile relays, is studied. Here, the average bit error probability (BEP) is utilized to evaluate the performance of Mary PSK modulation schemes. A simple analytical approximation for the average BEP of M-…

Cooperative communication design with distributed code allocation in a clustered network

2011

A major challenge for cooperative communication in distributed networks is to coordinate relay transmissions without introducing too much overhead. Targeting a clustered network, we propose a novel cooperative communication scheme including channel quality based relay selection and distributed space-time code allocation in this paper. Both analysis and simulations are carried out to investigate the performance of the proposed cooperative scheme, in terms of packet delivery rate, throughput and energy efficiency, under different channel conditions and network density.

Designing Frame Relay WAN Networks with Trade-Off between Link Cost and Performance

2014

This paper is focused on the problem of designing a Wide Area Network topology with trade-off between link cost and response time to users. The L2 technology chosen for the research is a Frame Relay based solution. The link capacities in the network and the routes used by packets are determined in a way to minimize network cost and response time at the same time. In FR networks link capacity corresponds directly to CIR parameter which makes the presented numerical results very useful in practice, especially during preliminary network design in the Design Phase of the PPDIOO methodology.

Joint Power Allocation and Link Selection for Multi-Carrier Buffer Aided Relay Network

2019

In this paper, we present a joint power allocation and adaptive link selection protocol for an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based network consists of one source node i.e., base station (BS), one destination node i.e., (MU) and a buffer aided decode and forward (DF) relay node. Our objective is to maximize the average throughput of the system via power loading over different subcarriers at source and relay nodes. A separate power budget is assumed at each transmitting node to make the system more practical. In order to form our solution more tractable, a decomposition framework is implemented to solve the mixed integer optimization problem. Further, less complex suboptim…

Energy efficient resource allocation for secure OFDMA relay systems with eavesdropper

2016

In this paper, we address the energy efficient resource allocation problem for a secure orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) relay system. In particular, we consider there is a eavesdropper near the base station (BS) which tries to overtake the information sent by BS. We formulate the joint optimization problem with the objective to optimize the energy efficiency of the considered system by considering subcarrier pairing, secret data rate and power allocation. In addition, the system can assign different priority to different users such that the security of information transmission can be guaranteed. The proposed iterative algorithm not only maximizes the system energy effi…

Plasmonic communications : light on a wire

2013

The emerging field of plasmonics promises the generation, processing, transmission, sensing and detection of signals at optical frequencies along metallic surfaces much smaller than the wavelengths they carry. Plasmonic technology has applications in a wide range of fields, including biophotonics, sensing, chemistry and medicine. But perhaps the area where it will have the most profound impact is in optical communications, since plasmonic waves oscillate at optical frequencies and thus can carry information at optical bandwidths.

Analysis of oscillations in discontinuous Lurie systems via LPRS method

2019

We discuss advantages and limitations of the harmonic balance method and the locus of a perturbed relay system (LPRS) method in the problem of finding periodic oscillations. In this paper we present the results of using harmonic balance method and LPRS method while investigating a 3rd order dynamic system in Lurie form. In this system a symmetric periodic oscillation is found, while other two asymmetric periodic motions are not found using both methods.

Coupled systems of non-smooth differential equations

2012

Abstract We study the geometric qualitative behavior of a class of discontinuous vector fields in four dimensions. Explicit existence conditions of one-parameter families of periodic orbits for models involving two coupled relay systems are given. We derive existence conditions of one-parameter families of periodic solutions of systems of two second order non-smooth differential equations. We also study the persistence of such periodic orbits in the case of analytic perturbations of our relay systems. These results can be seen as analogous to the Lyapunov Centre Theorem.
