The relevant information on the fossil record of the Neogene molluscs of the north of the Teruel Basin in the period between the years 1775-1998 is compiled and analyzed. First, the total number of different taxa mentioned in every paper is counted, second only the number of specific references is counted. The last references are divided into three categories called: new references, new species and repeated references. Apart from the information contained in every paper, the number of taxa contemplated, and the typology of the specific references, it is proposed a classification of the studies on neogene molluscs of this area in six stages: first (1775-1849), second (1849-1910), third (1910…

Development of a Taekwondo Combat Model Based on Markov Analysis

2019

The purpose of the present study was to examine male and female Olympic taekwondo competitors' movement patterns according to their tactical actions by applying a Markov processes analysis. To perform this study, 11,474 actions by male competitors and 12,980 actions by female competitors were compiled and analyzed. The results yielded 32 significant sequences among male competitors and 30 among female competitors. Male competitors demonstrated 11 sequences initiated by an attack, 11 initiated by a counterattack, and 10 initiated by a defensive action. Female competitors demonstrated nine sequences initiated by an attack, 11 initiated by a counterattack, and 10 initiated by a defensive move.…

Toward Mechanistic Design of Surrogate Buffers for Dissolution Testing of pH-Dependent Drug Delivery Systems

2020

The in vivo dissolution of enteric-coated (EC) products is often overestimated by compendial in vitro dissolution experiments. It is of great interest to mimic the in vivo conditions as closely as possible in vitro in order to predict the in vivo behavior of EC dosage forms. The reason behind this is the overly high buffering capacity of the common compendial buffers compared to the intestinal bicarbonate buffer. However, a bicarbonate-based buffer is technically difficult to handle due to the need for continuous sparging of the media with CO2 to maintain the desired buffer pH. Therefore, bicarbonate buffers are not commonly used in routine practice and a non-volatile alternative is of inte…

Thermal evolution of the CO stretching band in carboxy-myoglobin in the light of neutron scattering and molecular dynamics simulations

2008

Abstract As it is well known, the thermal behaviour of the CO stretching band in MbCO reflects the interconversion among protein’s taxonomic and lower tier substates. We compare here FTIR data on the thermal behaviour of the CO stretching band in MbCO embedded in non-liquid, water–trehalose matrixes, and neutron scattering data on dry and hydrated proteins and nucleic acids. The comparison, also in the light of simulative data, gives relevant information on the relationship between the mean square displacements of hydrogen atoms and the heme pocket thermal rearrangements in MbCO, as experienced by the bound CO, in the temperature region 100–200 K, and at higher temperature when large scale …

The Impact of Macroeconomic Variables on Corporate Performance - What Shareholders Ought to Know?

2002

Increased integration and growing macroeconomic fluctuations require more attention to be paid to the link between the "noise" that these fluctuations represent and the company's own development. For many reasons management must weed out the effects of the "noise" so as to obtain a clear picture of the long-term sustainable profits, and thus a picture of how the company's intrinsic competitiveness is fostered. An understanding of the effects of the fluctuations also provides the basis for risk assessment. How far, then, should this "new" view of corporate performance be extended to outsider shareholders? Current reporting practice does not provide these shareholders with an adequate idea of…

We therefore questioned the existence and effect of current drought management strategies on the actual impacts and how drought is perceived by relevant stakeholders. Over 700 participants from 28 European countries provided insights into drought hazard and impact perception and current management strategies. The study concludes with an urgent need to collectively combat drought risk via a European macro-level drought governance approach.11. Di-n-butyltin(IV)-catalyzed dimethyl carbonate synthesis from carbon dioxide and methanol: An in situ high pressure 119Sn{1H} NMR spectroscopic study

2011

The reactivity of five di-n-butyltin(IV) complexes, n-Bu2Sn(OR)(2) (1), n-Bu2SnO (3), [n-Bu2Sn(OR)](2)O (4), (n-Bu2SnO)(2)(CO2) (6) and (n-Bu2SnO)(6)[(n-Bu2SnOR)(2)(CO3)](2) (7) (R = CH3), with CO2, suggested as possible catalyst precursors and key-intermediates for the direct synthesis of dimethyl carbonate from carbon dioxide and methanol, has been investigated using high-pressure Sn-119{H-1} NMR (HP-NMR) spectroscopy. Four of the five precursors studied, i.e. 3, 4, 6 and 7 give rise to an identical Sn-119{H-1} NMR pattern which can be explicitly attributed to the fingerprint of the dimeric form of the 1-methoxy-3-methylcarbonatotetrabutyldistannoxane {5}(2). However, with 1, a new pair o…

EMU enlargement, stabilization costs and insurance mechanisms

2008

This paper considers the determinants of the macroeconomic costs of joining EMU for the new EU Member Sates, and compares them with those of the EMU members. Specifically, we investigate the business cycle correlation between the candidate's economy and that of the euro area as a whole, and the ability of insurance mechanisms and fiscal policies to smooth income fluctuations. The results suggest that EMU membership would not be costly for some countries (Cyprus, Hungary and Malta) but for other countries it could have relevant costs, at least in the short-run. For some of these countries, business cycles are not yet well synchronized with the euro area's business cycle, and risk-sharing mec…
