El orden público ante la libertad religiosa. Reflexiones sobre un debate

2020

The granting of the Duchy of Sueca to Manuel Godoy and the acquisition by auction of the territory and the belongings of this town, led to significant changes in the jurisdiction a…

The Role of Meaning in Life Within the Relations of Religious Coping and Psychological Well-Being.

2014

The purpose of this study was to examine whether meaning in life understood in terms of presence, search, and personal meaning is a mediator in the relationships between religious coping and psychological well-being. Associations of religiousness and psychological well-being are complex and suggest the existence of meaning and purpose in their internal structures. Two studies were conducted. In Study 1, presence of meaning in life was a mediator between negative coping and psychological well-being in the scope of a total score and all its dimensions. Search for meaning in life did not mediate the above relations. In Study 2, personal meaning turned out to be a partial mediator between negat…

Depression and religiosity in older age

2011

Abstract We investigated the hypothesis that religious commitment could help counter general affective distress, accompanying depressive symptoms, in older age. A total of 34 older adults, all catholic believers, completed self-reported questionnaires on the presence of depressive symptoms, religiosity, health, worry, and the style of coping with stress. The depressive and non-depressive subgroups were then created. The prevalence of depressive symptoms was 50%, with the substantial predominance of females. Regression analyses indicate that health expectations and worry significantly worsen with increasing intensity of depressive symptoms. The results further show that religious engagement …

Disclosure to God as a Mediator Between Private Prayer and Psychological Well-Being in a Christian Sample.

2021

AbstractAlthough a number of studies have reported the psychological and physical benefits of prayer, only a few have examined the means by which prayer affects health. Winkeljohn Black et al. (J Relig Health 54(2):540–553, 2015. 10.1007/s10943-014-9840-4) found disclosure to God as a mediator in the relationship between prayer and mental health. In their study, the authors used Poloma and Pendleton’s (Rev Relig Res 31(1):46–53, 1989. https://doi.org/10.2307/3511023, ) model of prayer. This study examined whether disclosure to God as a mediator can be upheld with Laird et al.’s (Int J Psychol Relig 14(4):251–272, 2004) prayer model. The study included 285 Polish adults (50.2% of women), age…

A Generative Model of the Mutual Escalation of Anxiety Between Religious Groups

2018

We propose a generative agent-based model of the emergence and escalation of xenophobic anxiety in which individuals from two different religious groups encounter various hazards within an artificial society. The architecture of the model is informed by several empirically validated theories about the role of religion in intergroup conflict. Our results identify some of the conditions and mechanisms that engender the intensification of anxiety within and between religious groups. We define mutually escalating xenophobic anxiety as the increase of the average level of anxiety of the agents in both groups over time. Trace validation techniques show that the most common conditions under which …

Il metodo Montessori nelle lezioni di pedagogia di Aldo Capitini (1948-1960)

2019

This article concerns the lessons that Aldo Capitini dedicated to the Montessori Method, in Pisa University (1948-49) and in Cagliari University (1959-60). Beyond the common opinion that interprets the two theories of education as similar, the criticism that Capitini did to Maria Montessori was intended to clarify his education theory of the co-presence. Sympathizing with the neo-idealistic and secular critiques, Capitini denounced the limits of the Montessori proposal regarding some subjects: scientific pedagogy, method, didactic material, liberation of the child, religion, peace. Reading the summaries of the two university courses, the presence of two Capitinian Montessori emerges, even i…

Appearance as the Arrival of the Future

2017

AMBIGUITIES of language often indicate a problematic subject matter. That is the case with the word "appear" (erscheinen). When I say that an acquaintance (or someone with whom I was previously unacquainted) "appeared" to me, in order to speak with me, the meaning is: he came to me, he showed up in my habitat, perhaps at my home. He did not only seem (scheinen) to be there; he really was there. When something appears to us, it does not only seem to be with us, it actually is present. Appearance and existence are here very closely connected. But on the other hand, my acquaintance still exists even when he does not appear to me. Whether that would still be true if he appeared nowhere whether …
