The scale of divine love, mystical and catechetical text of medieval spiritual literature

2019

Abstract Early knowledge of medieval literature, not only in Latin, it transfers you into a heaven of peace. No wonder that out of such springs came out the whole methodology of the famous lectio divina (see Mario Masini) from which we still feed a large part of modern communication methods. Scala divini amoris is such a challenge for the modern reader. Preserved in a manuscript Egerton 945 in the British Library in London, the text is written in Occitan, unknown both to researchers in theology and to scholars from those specializing in Provencal. The manuscript Egerton 945 contains two major texts: Liber divinis amoris și De divina impletione.

The Text of the Lord’s Prayer in Marcion’s Gospel

2012

In text-critical studies of the Lukan version of the Lord’s Prayer (Lk 11,2-4), one of the most interesting, and at the same time most problematic, witnesses is Marcion’s Gospel. Scholarship for much of the twentieth century has generally followed the reconstruction of Adolf von Harnack in his magisterial work on Marcion: ... (και) μή άφeς ημάς eίσeνeχθήναι eις πeιρασμόν.1 As a result, it has more or less been assumed that this was the wording of the Lord’s Prayer in Marcion’s text.2 A major problem with th…

Belief in God, Confidence in the Church and Secularization in Scandinavia

2021

We used the three latest rounds of the religion module of International Social Survey Programme to study secularization in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, focusing on belief in God. We restricted our sample to the affiliated with the majority Protestant churches and the unaffiliated and analyzed the trends toward disaffiliation and disbelief in God. Then, we studied the association between confidence in churches, religious/secular upbringing, and demographic controls with belief in God using multinomial logistic regression models. Our treatment of belief in God as a nominal variable allowed the inclusion of both the element of doubt and different images of God in the analyses. The trends towar…

Modeling the Effects of Religious Belief and Affiliation on Prosociality

2021

To what extent do supernatural beliefs, group affiliation, and social interaction produce values and behaviors that benefit others, i.e., 'prosociality'? Addressing this question involves multiple variables interacting within complex social networks that shape and constrain the beliefs and behaviors of individuals. We examine the relationships among some of these factors utilizing data from the World Values Survey to inform the construction of an Agent-Based Model. The latter was able to identify the conditions under which – and the mechanisms by which – the prosociality of simulated agents was increased or decreased within an “artificial society” designed to reflect real world parameters. …

The Problem of Displaced Jews and the Holocaust

2011

So far we have discussed how the Holocaust was portrayed as part of the discourse on the liberation of the camps and the Nuremberg Trial. The last part of this book takes on a theme that runs parallel to, sometimes converging with, the ‘Nuremberg interregnum’. As Suomen Kuvalehti pointed out in 1945: ‘The Nazi war of extermination against the Jews did not resolve the Jewish question. On the contrary, the persecution has made the agenda more complicated than ever before.’1 Therefore, an examination of the press discourse on Jewish Displaced Persons (DPs), the creation of Israel and the emergence of the Cold War is necessary. However, it makes sense to deal with these topics separately in ord…
