The religiousness of young people is strongly associated with discovering life goals, identity formation, and the sphere of values. During this period there occur dynamic changes in religious beliefs and behaviours, as well as the process of discovering the meaning of life and creating hope. The purpose of this article is to examine the relationships between religion analysed in terms of personal constructs and post-critical beliefs and the sense of meaning in life, as well as two types of hope: basic hope and hope for success. AbstractThe authors of the article analyse the ideology of the authoritarian regime which lasted in Latvia from the coup d'etat on 15 May 1934 until the beginning of the Soviet occupation on 17 June 1940. A variety of sources (newspapers and books of the analysed period) are used for the article. The birthday celebrations of authoritarian leader Kārlis Ulmanis are used as a case study to show the performative elements of the regime. A fundamental change in the understanding of marriage becomes apparent in the first century A.D., described by M. Foucault as the transition from a “matrimonial” to a “conjugal” marital concept. While early Christianity participated in this development, it also influenced it at decisive points and developed its own marital ethics.
