Methadone versus buprenorphine: data detected from Caltanissetta SER.T
2020
In last years, heroin-addicted have exponentially increased: this has made it necessary to identify a pharmacological strategy as effective as possible. With this purpose, a statistical investigation was conducted in a sample of individuals, aged between 18 and 50. They were diagnosed and subjected to different treatments at Ser.T of Caltanissetta (Sicily-Italy) during the period 2013-2017. The analyzed patients were treated with three different pharmacological therapy: methadone 0.1%, methadone 0.5%, buprenorphine and suboxone. We obtained percentages of responders, low responders and non-responders patients from data processing, based on used therapy. Considering pharmacological responses…
Volatile Compounds in Red Wines Processed on an Industrial Scale by Short Pre-fermentative Cold Maceration
2012
Nero d’Avola and Shiraz grapes were subjected to pre-fermentative cold maceration at 4°C for about 24 h in industrial winemaking, in order to evaluate the effects of the pre-treatment on aroma profile. The volatile compounds were identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and grouped into 14 chemical families 4 and 9 months after bottling. Principal components analysis (PCA) plots of the volatile compounds showed clear separation among wines from the Shiraz and Nero d’Avola varieties. For instance, Shiraz wines were characterized along the PC1 axe by esters of organic acids, norisoprenoids and C6 alcohols, while Nero d’Avola wines were characterized by acetates and monoterpenic oxid…
Regulatory features of glycogen phosphorylase from frog brain (Rana temporaria)
1985
1. Glycogen content and the activity of glycogen phosphorylase (GPase) are much higher in brain tissue of the Common frog (Rana temporaria) than in brain tissue of mammals and birds (Table 1). 2. In phosphate buffer GPase is extracted from frog orain in a form completely active without addition of AMP and has therefore to be regarded as phosphorylase a. Several procedures to extract the b-form of the enzyme from the tissue have been unsuccessful. In resting skeletal muscle predominantly the AMP dependent b-form is present (Table 1). 3. In vitro, however, the existence of the complete interconverting system can be demonstrated. If NaF (a phosphatase inhibitor) was omitted from the homogeniza…
Penetrant diffusion in frozen polymer matrices: A finite-size scaling study of free volume percolation
1996
The diffusion of penetrant particles in frozen polymer matrices is investigated by means of Monte Carlo simulations of the bond fluctuation model. By applying finite-size scaling to data obtained from very large systems it is demonstrated that the diffusion process takes place on a percolating free volume cluster describable by a correlated site percolation model which falls into the same universality class as random percolation. The diverging correlation length entails a pronounced dependence of the diffusion constant on the size of the simulated system. It is shown that this dependence is appreciable for a wide range of parameters around the transition. \textcopyright{} 1996 The American …
Low-temperature specific heat of orientational glasses
1992
This review summarizes specific heat data measured at low temperatures (T<1 K) on orientational glasses. Three species of mixed molecular crystals exhibiting orientational disorder are considered, namely (KBr)1−x (KCN) x , (NaCN)1−x (KCN) x (Rb)1−x (NH4) x H2PO4. For intermediate concentrations of the anisotropic components, glass-like excitations have been observed. It is demonstrated that with respect to thermal properties, orientational disorder leads to the same “universal” behaviours than for structural disorder, i.e. a specific heat which varies below 1 K and for times 10−4 s–10 s as:C p(T,t)∞T 1×ln(t). The variation of the glass-like anomaly with compositional disorder is also discus…
Victor Schoelcher, abolitionniste et républicain : approche juridique et politique de l'oeuvre d'un fondateur de la République
2000
The aim of this judicial and political analysis is to reveal Victor Schoelcher's decisive influence in the fight for equal rights and for the republic, in the French mainland as well as in its colonies. His well known fight against slavery was just a part of his humanist defense of the republican principles : Liberty, Equality, Fraternity. Schoelcher truly was a founder of the republic, taking part in the barricade insurrections against the 1851 coup and fighting against any kind of slavery or absolutism. His work addressed many aspects of our society, among which : - Slavery and the colonies (legal status of slaves, emancipated slaves and of the colonies) - Rights and liberties of men and …
A cognitive/decision-making model of evaluation for ethical urban and building renewal
2009
Creativity is a strategic factor not only in the production sector, but also for planning, development and management of the city. The physical shape of the city is determined by the plan of buildings and settlements as a whole. Nevertheless, the functional and aesthetical criteria alone are inadequate, if you adopt the view of sustainability. In particular, from biological, ecological and economic points of view, the shape of the sustainable city is the result of a process of creative choice of traditional and innovative forms, materials and technologies that contribute to the quality of buildings and urban ambient. This principle applies a fortiori in cities interested by not-negligible p…
Substrate specificity overlap and interaction between Adrenoleukodystrophy protein (ALDP/ABCD1) and Adrenoleukodystrophy-related protein (ALDRP/ABCD2)
2011
X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (X-ALD) is a neurodegenerative disorder caused by mutations in the ABCD1 gene, which encodes a peroxisomal member of the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter subfamily D called ALDP. ALDP is supposed to function as a homodimer allowing the entry of CoA-esters of very-long chain fatty acids (VLCFA) into the peroxisome, the unique site of their β-oxidation. ALDP deficiency can be corrected by overexpression of ALDRP, its closest homolog. However, the exact nature of the substrates transported by ALDRP and its relationships with ALDP still remain unclear. To gain insight into the function of ALDRP, we used cell models allowing the induction in a dose-dependent m…
