Financial Aspects of Cervical Disc Arthroplasty: A Narrative Review of Recent Literature
2020
Recently, there has been significant interest in understanding the cost-effectiveness of treatments in spine surgery as health care systems in the United States move toward value-based care and alternative payment models. Previous studies have shown comparable outcomes of cervical disc arthroplasty (CDA) and anterior cervical discectomy fusion; however, there is a lack of consensus on the cost-effectiveness of CDA to support full adoption. Evidence of the limitations of these cost-analysis studies also exists in the literature, including industry funding, potential selection bias, and varying methods of calculating value. The goal of this narrative review is to provide an overview of the co…
Two-step polymerization of propylene over MgCl2-supported titanium catalyst
1998
The prepolymerization effect on propylene polymerization in the presence of a MgCl 2 -supported titanium catalyst was studied. The catalyst was pre-activated by polymerizing a small amount of propylene in the presence of Et 3 Al and cyclohexylmethyldimethoxysilane under mild conditions, and then it was used in a second step of propylene polymerization. Comparative studies of the polymerization process involving the investigated catalyst and its unmodified counterpart showed the rate-enhancement effect of prepolymerization and the same molecular weights, MWD's and isotacticities of the polymers obtained. Concentrations of active sites and propagation rate as well as transfer rate constants w…
Production of soluble eukaryotic recombinant proteins in E. coli is favoured in early log-phase cultures induced at low temperature
2013
Abstract Background Producing recombinant plant proteins expressed in Escherichia coli produce in high yields and in a soluble and functional form can be difficult. Under overexpression conditions, proteins frequently accumulate as insoluble aggregates (inclusion bodies) within the producing bacteria. We evaluated how the initial culture density, temperature and duration of the expression stage affect the production of some eukaryotic enzymes in E. coli. Findings A high yield of active soluble proteins was obtained by combining early-log phase cultures and low temperatures for protein induction. When IPTG was added at OD600 = 0.1 and cultures were maintained at 4°C for 48-72 h, the soluble …
Experimental Studies for Modelling the Phase Behaviour of Monomer/Polymer/Disc Composites
2010
Nanoparticles do not stabilize the mixtures of epoxy monomer (prepolymer)/thermoplastic modifier (PS) and the ones of thermoplastic modifier dispersed within cured epoxy matrix. A small amount of thermoplastic co-polymer poly(styrene-b-methyl methacrylate) [P(S-b-MMA)] of MMA 4-22 wt.%, mixed with PS, makes compatible the mixtures with monomer epoxy precursor and cured epoxy matrix. The mixtures of cured epoxy matrix with thermoplastic consisting of PS and P(S-b-MMA), with nanofil 1%, are stable: the instability produced by the nanofil is overcome by the stability provided by the co-polymer. A model by Balazs' group to explain the phase behaviour of polymer/clay composites is extended.
Crystal structure of isobutylammonium hydrogen oxalate hemihydrate
2014
In the title hydrated molecular salt, C4H12N+·C2HO4−·0.5H2O, the O atom of the water molecule lies on a crystallographic twofold axis. The dihedral angle between the CO2and CO2H planes of the anion is 18.47 (8)°. In the crystal, the anions are connected to each other by strong near-linear O—H...O hydrogen bonds. The water molecules are located between the chains of anions and isobutylamine cations; their O atoms participate as donors and acceptors, respectively, in O—H...O and N—H...O hydrogen bonds, which form channels (dimensions = 4.615 and 3.387 Å) arranged parallel to [010].
Crystal structure of diethyl (E)-2-[(benzofuran-2-yl)methylidene]succinate
2015
The title compound, C17H18O5, was synthesized by a base-free catalytic Wittig reaction. The molecule consists of a diethyl itaconate unit, which is connectedviathe C=C double bond to a benzofuran moiety. The benzofuran ring system (r.m.s. deviation = 0.007 Å) forms dihedral angles of 79.58 (4) and 12.12 (10)° with the mean planes through thecisandtransethoxycarbonyl groups, respectively. An intramolecular C—H...O hydrogen bond involving the O atom of the benzofuran moiety is observed. In the crystal, molecules are linked into ribbons running parallel to thebaxis by C—H...O hydrogen bonds.
Crystal structure of (E)-4-methoxy-2-{[(5-methylpyridin-2-yl)imino]methyl}phenol
2015
The molecule of the title Schiff base compound, C14H14N2O2, displays anEconformation with respect the imine C=N double bond. The molecule is approximately planar, with the dihedral angle formed by the planes of the pyridine and benzene rings being 5.72 (6)°. There is an intramolecular hydrogen bond involving the phenolic H and imine N atoms.
Crystal structure of 1-hydroxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-1-ium trifluoromethanesulfonate
2015
In the cation of the title salt, C9H20NO+·CF3O3S−, the six-membered heterocyclic ring displays a chair conformation. In the crystal, centrosymmetric pairs of cations and anions are linked by N—H...O and O—H...O hydrogen bonds to form rings with aR44(14) graph-set motif.
Crystal structure of C-2-benzo-thia-zole-N-methyl-nitrone.
2015
The molecule of the title compound {systematic name:N-[(benzothiazol-2-yl)methylidene]methylamineN-oxide}, C9H8N2OS, is close to planar [maximum deviation from the mean plane = 0.081 (2) Å], its conformation being stabilized by a strong intramolecular attractive S...O interaction [2.6977 (16) Å]. In the crystal, molecules are linked into centrosymmetric dimers by pairs of weak C—H...O hydrogen bonds.
