Treatment of multiple traumatized anterior teeth associated with an alveolar bone fracture in a 20-year-old patient: A 3-year follow up

2014

Intrusive luxation is a type of recognizable luxation injury represented by a deeper axial displacement of the tooth toward the alveolar bone. Treatment strategies include waiting for the tooth to return to its position, immediate surgical repositioning, and repositioning through dental traction by orthodontic devices. The aim of this case report was to present the management of severe dental trauma and later restoration following IADT. A 20-year-old patient was presented after fainting at home four hours before, resulting in a dento-alveolar trauma. Clinical examinations revealed a traumatic intrusion, in 1.2, 1.1 and 2.1, uncomplicated crown fractures in 1.1 and 2.1 and a complicated crow…

Thrombocytopenia-Absent Radius (TAR): Case report of dental implant and surgical treatment

2020

Thrombocytopenia-absent radius (TAR) syndrome is a congenital malformation in which affected individuals present reductions in the number of platelets, hypoplasia, or absence of radial bone unilaterally or bilaterally. Hematologic, skeletal, cardiac (particularly tetralogy of Fallot and septal-atrial defects), and gastrointestinal anomalies are most commonly associated with TAR syndrome. Skeletal changes result in a higher risk of dental and craniofacial trauma in patients with the syndrome. Thus, it is important for the dentist to be aware of the characteristics of TAR syndrome and its clinical management for better care of these patients. The objective of this study is to describe a case …

Treatment and restoration of adult dentoalveolar trauma: A clinical case report

2016

Adult dentoalveolar trauma most often occurs in the context of sports activities and traffic accidents. Coronal fractures are the most common type of lesion, followed by tooth luxation. We present the case of a 25-year-old woman who suffered alveolar bone damage and coronal fractures of the upper incisors, with extrusive luxation of the right central incisor, as the result of a fall. On the first visit, manual reduction of the buccal plate was carried out under local anesthesia, with repositioning of the right central incisor and splinting to the neighboring teeth. Composites were used to restore the coronal fractures. After one month, both upper central incisors and the right lateral incis…

Faking personality profiles on a standard personality inventory

2009

Abstract A study is reported which investigates the fakeability of personality profiles as measured by a standard personality inventory, the Freiburger Personlichkeitsinventar (FPI). Unlike previous studies investigating laypersons' ability to fake a global good or bad impression, the present study examined individuals' ability to fake a specific personality profile. Four groups of subjects were instructed to fake their FPI scores so as to present themselves as high vs low scorers on the “social orientation” dimension or high vs low scorers on the “achievement orientation” dimension. The results clearly demonstrate that subjects are successful in manipulating their scores on the critical di…

Scholarly Information and Communication: role and tools of institutional depositories

2004

2008

International audience; This research explores how hallucinated voices appear in schizophrenic patient's narrations. Fourteen narrations of hallucinated patients were studied and are reported. Results show significant differences regarding the prevalence of use in the types of reported speeches, the ones most employed are reported speech and undetermined reported speech as respectively cited. The report mentions that hallucinated discourse is entirely separate and autonomous from the rest of the narration. These results underscore the xenopathic characteristic of hallucinated voices in the elaboration of the narration. These results are discussed for future research in this perspective and …

Identification of picobirnavirus from faeces of Italian children suffering from acute diarrhea

1996

Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of nucleic acid extracted from stool samples of diarrhoeic children revealed in 3 out of 690 (0.43 %) specimens two electrophoretic bands with a migration pattern characteristic of picobirnavirus ds-RNA. In none of the 92 control children were similar bands detected. No other potential enteric pathogens were found in the patients with picobirnavirus infection.

Self-reported nonceliac wheat sensitivity in an outpatient digestive endoscopy center: high frequency but insufficient medical approach.

2021

Objective: 'Self-reported wheat sensitivity' (SRWS) is a self-reported condition caused by wheat ingestion in the absence of celiac disease or wheat allergy. The aim of the study was to investigate the frequency and characteristics of SRWS in outpatients referred for digestive endoscopy. Methods: The study, performed at the University of Palermo, enrolled 496 outpatients. Results: Seven individuals (1.4%) had an already established diagnosis of celiac disease. The questionnaire was administered to the other 489 individuals: 98 subjects (20%) were SRWS, the remaining 391 served as controls (i.e. not-SRWS). SRWS patients were younger (P < 0.001), with a higher percentage of females (P = 0.…

Peripheral Neuropathy and VIth Nerve Palsy Related to Randall Disease Successfully Treated by High-Dose Melphalan, Autologous Blood Stem Cell Transpl…

2010

Randall disease is an unusual cause of extraocular motor nerve (VI) palsy. A 35-year-old woman was hospitalized for sicca syndrome. The physical examination showed general weakness, weight loss, diplopia related to a left VIth nerve palsy, hypertrophy of the submandibular salivary glands, and peripheral neuropathy. The biological screening revealed renal insufficiency, serum monoclonal kappa light chain immunoglobulin, urinary monoclonal kappa light chain immunoglobulin, albuminuria, and Bence-Jones proteinuria. Bone marrow biopsy revealed medullar plasma cell infiltration. Immunofixation associated with electron microscopy analysis of the salivary glands showed deposits of kappa light chai…
