Hidden connections: Network effects on editorial decisions in four computer science journals

Abstract This paper aims to examine the influence of authors’ reputation on editorial bias in scholarly journals. By looking at eight years of editorial decisions in four computer science journals, including 7179 observations on 2913 submissions, we reconstructed author/referee-submission networks. For each submission, we looked at reviewer scores and estimated the reputation of submission authors by means of their network degree. By training a Bayesian network, we estimated the potential effect of scientist reputation on editorial decisions. Multi-Platform Agent Systems with Dynamic Reputation Policy Management

Open, distributed multi-platform agent systems require new management approaches for resources and data secure access. In this paper a Jade-S based multi-platform agent system implementing dynamic reputation policy management is proposed. The implemented extension deals with biometrics, X-Security, DES cryptography and agent reputation. With more details, the proposed reputation management system helps to assess the agent's behavior and reliability, in order to select trusted agents. This is made possible by the knowledge that agents are able to acquire, over time, and that allows them to choose the best solution using own intelligence in total autonomy.

A Framework for Parallel Assessment of Reputation Management Systems

Several distributed applications running over the Internet use Reputation Management Systems (RMSs) to guarantee reliable interactions among unknown agents. Because of the heterogeneity of the existing RMSs, their assessment in terms of correctness and resistance to security attacks is not a trivial task. This work addresses this issue by presenting a novel parallel simulator aimed to support researchers in evaluating the performances of a RMS since the design phase. Preliminary results obtained by simulating two different attacks confirm the suitability of the proposed framework to evaluate different RMSs.

Several distributed applications, implemented over today’s Internet, are based on the assumption that participating agents collaborate in order to achieve their own goal. However, when these applications are modelled as unstructured distributed systems, the greater autonomy and decentralization encourage antisocial behaviours, which are likely to cause performance degradation for the whole system.
