Use and Identification of Components in Component-Based Software Development Methods
2000
New software systems are needed ever more but to keep up with this trend software developers must learn to create quality software more efficiently. One approach is to (re-)use components as building blocks of the new software. Recently there has been more interest to create component-based software development methods to support this. In this article we first set out requirements for reuse-based software development and then evaluate three component-based methods, namely Catalysis, OMT++, and Unified Process. As a conclusion we argue that evaluated methods produce prefabricated components and that component-based means that software developers can change better components to existing syste…
An Approach to Data Quality Evaluation
2018
This research proposes a new approach to data quality evaluation comprising 3 aspects: (1) data object definition, which quality will be analyzed, (2) quality requirements specification for the data object using Domain Specific Language (DSL), (3) implementation of an executable data quality model that would enable scanning of data object and detect its shortages. Like the Model Driven Architecture (MDA) the data quality modelling is divided into platform independent (PIM) and platform-specific (PSM) models. PIM comprises informal specifications of data quality, PSM describes implementation of data quality model, thus making the data quality model executable. The approbation of the proposed…
A Cloud Federation Architecture
2015
Cloud Computing is the state of the art computation paradigm enabling providers to offer computing resources to customers in a pay-per-use fashion. Nowadays public Cloud providers offer similar services within few service models, mainly IaaS and PaaS. Cloud providers give to the user the feeling to dispose of infinite resources, thus having to predict the user requirements in order to provide services with minimal costs, maintaining at the same time high levels of SLAs. In order to achieve this goal, Cloud providers can cooperate together to bring new business opportunities, such as expanding available resources, achieving cost effective asset optimization and adopting power saving policies…
Activity typologies as a design model for the ubiquitous detection of daily routines
2018
Emerging technologies open up new visions and business potential for systems design and development in the areas of wellbeing and health. New technologies enable the detection of human performance and early changes in physical and cognitive functioning, making it possible to monitor an older person’s wellbeing. This kind of technology or service sets significant requirements for design, as design concepts must be able to capture the complexity of people’s daily lives in terms of activities and environments. Technology itself is “blind” unless designers can adapt it to human life. There is thus a distinct need for comprehensive design and development models that generate adequate human requi…
Review of High Resolution Thermal Infrared Applications and Requirements: The Fuegosat Synthesis Study
2013
High resolution thermal infrared remote sensing can have a wide range of applications. In this chapter we describe the different applications and requirements identified after a revision study in the framework of the Fuegosat Synthesis Study (FSS). This project was funded by the European Space Agency (ESA), and the three main objectives were: (i) review of applications and analyses for user requirements, (ii) consolidation of user requirements over a broad range of applications, and (iii) matching of user requirements and industry concepts to identify and outline a set of potential mission scenarios and their corresponding requirements. This chapter focuses on issues (i) and (ii). These obj…
Trophic Requirements of the Sea Urchin Paracentrotus lividus Varies at Different Life Stages: Comprehension of Species Ecology and Implications for E…
2022
Investigations on trophic requirements of different life cycle stages of Paracentrotus lividus are crucial for the comprehension of species ecology and for its artificial rearing. The future success of echinoculture depends heavily on the development of suitable and cost-effective diets that are specifically designed to maximize somatic growth during the early life stages and gonadal production in the later stages. In this context, a considerable number of studies have recommended animal sources as supplements in sea urchin diets. However, with the exception of Fernandez and Boudouresque (2000), no studies have investigated the dietary requirements over the different life stages of the sea …
Searching the internet for learning materials through didactic indicators
2007
Internet offers a huge amount of didactic materials that can be used in creating new online courses. However, those materials need a deep analysis to understand their context and contents before their potential use. As a consequence, the search of didactic material in internet is often quite tedious and time consuming so the searcher usually limits his/her analysis to the first found web pages . To help users in finding efficiently and timely the most appropriate online materials, we have developed a system, called SAXEF (System for Automatic eXtraction of lEearning object Features), that is capable to automatically extract the didactic indicators (a sort of DNA) of any web page (or group o…
On-Line Retrieval of Health Information Based on Language Complexity, Information Customization and Information Quality
2021
Abstract. A patient, nowadays, acquires on-line health information mainly by means of a search engine. Generic search engines have been shown to be limited and unsatisfactory, at times, because of their generic searches that overload users with the amount of results. Moreover, they are not able to provide customized information to different types of users. At the same time, specific search engines mostly work on medical literature and provide extracts from medical journals that are mainly useful for medical researchers and experts. As a consequence, the found health information may or may not help a user (mainly a non-expert one) for a full comprehension of what he/she is looking for (e.g.,…
La decisione politica nel tempo dell'emergenza sanitaria
2020
The article deals with the problem of the legal nature of the d.P.C.M., the act enacted by the government after the declaration of the health emergency. In particular, the paper aims at investigating the debate around the technical re- quirements in the political decision and the judicial review on the administra- tive measure, in order to verify their compliance with the Constitution.
Law as Power: Two Rule of Law Requirements
2013
Abstract. ‘Law as power’ is a neglected topic in contemporary analytical jurisprudence. Attention has been paid, from Hart (and Kelsen) onwards, to normative powers. ‘Brute’ social power, however, and law’s relation to it, are, in post-Hartian jurisprudence, largely overlooked. The subject of this paper is the shape social power takes when the rule of the law is envisaged as an ethico-political ideal—I discuss, that is, the Rule of Law as a specific mode of the exercise of social power, and what is valuable in it. I concentrate on two Rule of Law requirements, consistency (i.e., the avoidance of conflicts) and compliability (i.e., conformity to the ‘ought’ implies ‘can’ principle). They con…
