Robustified smoothing for enhancement of thermal image sequences affected by clouds

2015

Obtaining radiometric surface temperature information with both high acquisition rate and high spatial resolution is still not possible through a single sensor. However, in several earth observation applications, the fusion of data acquired by different sensors is a viable solution for so called image sharpening. A related issue is the presence of clouds, which may impair the performance of the data fusion algorithms. In this paper we propose a robustified setup for the sharpening of thermal images in a non real-time scenario, capable to deal with missing thermal data due to cloudy pixels, and robust with respect to cloud mask misclassifications. The effectiveness of the presented technique…

Between Composition and Emergentness: A Cognitive Semantics Re-Reading of the Way-Construction

2016

This study re-analyzes the English way-construction by having recourse to diverse concepts and tools of Talmy’s cognitive semantics. Drawing on his theory of recombinance and its relevance for conceptualizing the construction, the article implements Talmy’s theory of event integration, categorizes the way-construction as an instantiation of the open path event frame, considers link-ups of the schematic systems of force dynamics and attention as they become instantiated in the construction, and probes into its motion-aspect patterning, grounded in a conformation of space and time and resulting in a strategy that is called de-conflation. Further, it will recruit Talmy’s types of semantic conf…

AX-PET: Concept, proof of principle and first results with phantoms

2010

AX-PET is a novel PET concept based on long crystals axially arranged and orthogonal Wavelength shifter (WLS) strips, both individually readout by Geiger-mode Avalanche Photo Diodes (G-APD). Its design was conceived in order to reduce the parallax error and simultaneously improve spatial resolution and sensitivity. The assessment of the AX-PET concept and potential was carried out through a set of measurements comprising individual module characterizations and scans in coincidence mode of point-like and extended sources. The estimated energy and spatial resolutions from point-like measurements are R FWHM =11.6% (at 511 keV) and 1.7–1.9 mm (FWHM) respectively as measured with point-like sour…

Application of the S-CIELAB color model to processed and calibrated images with a colorimetric dithering method.

2009

This work uses the S-CIELAB color model to compare images that have been calibrated and processed using a colorimetric dithering method which simulates increments in viewing distance. Firstly, we obtain XYZ calibrated images by applying the appropriate color transformations to the original images. These transformations depend on whether the image is viewed on a display device or encoded by a capture device, for example. Secondly, we use a colorimetric dithering method consisting of a partitive additive mixing of XYZ tristimulus values. The number of dithered pixels depends on simulated viewing distance. The dithered tristimulus values are transformed to digital data to observe the dithering…

Effects of Repeating a Tactile Brain-Computer Interface on Patients with Disorder of Consciousness: A Hint of Recovery?

2019

Brain-computer interface (BCI) has been emerging as an assessment tool for patients with disorder of consciousness (DOC). With the advantages of high time resolution, low cost and portable design, EEG based BCI systems are especially suitable for bedside measurement. Recent studies showed the successful application of an EEG based BCI on DOC assessment and communication. However, the effect of repeated BCI measurement on this patient group is not clear. In this study, a tactile BCI paradigm was repeated 12 runs for 10 consecutive days on 5 DOC patients. Although the BCI performance varied among runs and days, every patient reached at least once the accuracy above 60%. Moreover, the Coma Rec…

Quasianalytic Denjoy-Carleman classes and o-minimality

2003

We show that the expansion of the real field generated by the functions of a quasianalytic Denjoy-Carleman class is model complete and o-minimal, provided that the class satisfies certain closure conditions. Some of these structures do not admit analytic cell decomposition, and they show that there is no largest o-minimal expansion of the real field.

Las habilidades comunicativas básicas en la inserción profesional. Intervención con estudiantes del Grado de Administración y Dirección de Empresas

2014

This research is a study on communication skills, skills needed in professional insertion. Our starting point is a consideration of what is demanded in today's society, what companies ask for when hiring students after college and how students should prepare for their working lives. The most necessary skills in the workplace are analyzed and explained through a study of students in the final year of the Bachelor of Administration and Management, using questionnaires and conducting a workshop coordinated by two qualified educational specialists. We find that in addition to language skills, skills in information technology and communication, the ability to adapt to new situations and initiati…
