Mapping and assessing coastal resilience in the Caribbean region

Assessing the vulnerability and resilience to coastal hazards is a critical worldwide issue, especially for hurricane-prone coastal regions such as the Caribbean. However, the development of a useful metric for vulnerability and resilience assessment has a lot of challenges. Cartography and GIS analysis can contribute effectively to the solution of the issue by integrating natural and human data layers for assessment, mapping, and visualization. Noticing-prefaced recoveries of the interactional space in a video-mediated business meeting

Drawing on conversation analysis and authentic data from a video-mediated multiparty meeting, this study investigates the sequential and temporal organisation of recoveries of the interactional space. It focuses on moments in which either an auditory or a visual barrier emerges, and the participants orient to these troubles through intensified bodily-visual displays: embodied noticings. This is a commentary on the ESM 2021 Special Issue on Innovations in Measuring and Fostering Mathematical Modelling Competencies. We have grouped the ten studies into three themes: competencies, fostering, and measuring. The first theme and the papers therein provide a platform to discuss the cognitivist backgrounds to the different conceptualizations of mathematical modelling competencies, based on the modelling cycle. We suggest theoretical widening through a competence continuum and enriching of the modelling cycle with overarching, analytic dimensions for creativity, tool use, metacognition, and so forth. Acorn ants mostly inhabit cavities in fallen twigs and hollow acorns. Such places, e.g., dead wood, provide an attractive living resource for many groups of microorganisms, like fungi and bacteria, which can be important for ants. However, during experiments in laboratories, acorn ant colonies are typically kept without dead wood. During laboratory experi-ments, the preferences of the ant Temnothorax crassispinus for nest sites with pieces of dead wood were checked, and whether the presence of such wood influenced productivity. Los resultados apuntan que los miembros del comité editorial publican sus artículos de forma más rápida frente a los autores que no forman parte del comité, y que no existe colaboración entre los miembros con mayor presencia en diferentes comités, sí habiéndola entre miembros de una misma revista. On Capturing Rent from a Non-Renewable Resource International Monopoly: A Dynamic Game Approach

In this paper we model the case of an international non-renewable resource monopolist as a dynamic game between a monopolist and n importing countries governments, and we investigate whether a tariff on resource imports can be advantageous for the consumers of the importing countries when the monopolist sets the price and the importing countries governments act in a non-cooperative way. We find that a tariff is advantageous for the consumers even when there is not commitment to the trade policy although the part of the rent that can be reaped by the importing countries decreases substantially with the number of importing countries.
