The Burden of Rhinitis and Rhinoconjunctivitis in Adolescents
2014
Purpose Rhinitis and conjunctivitis are common diseases worldwide that are frequently associated. Nevertheless, the risk factors for rhinoconjunctivitis are not well-described and the impact of conjunctivitis on rhinitis and asthma in children remains unknown. This study explored the different risk factors and evaluated the burden of rhinoconjunctivitis among adolescents. Methods This was a cross-sectional study conducted on a random sample of schoolchildren, aged 10-17 years, using skin prick tests and a self-administered questionnaire on respiratory health investigating the impact of rhinitis and rhinoconjunctivitis on daily activities. Results A complete evaluation was obtained for 2,150…

Toxicidad pulmonar por talidomida
2002
Although the side effects of thalidomide are well known, lung toxicity has not been reported. We describe the case of a 65-year-old man with multiple myeloma (IgG kappa) in stage IA who, on the thirty-seventh day of treatment with thalidomide, developed acute coughing, general malaise, dyspnea at rest and sudoresis. Blood pressure was 90/60 mm Hg and temperature was normal. An interstitial and alveolar pattern was visible on the right side of a chest film and arterial blood gases indicated partial respiratory insufficiency (pH 7.40, PaCO2 40 mmHg, PaO2 47 mmHg). Blood analysis showed alterations expected for multiple myeloma and microbiology was negative (sputum and blood cultures and urina…
Quality of Life 3 and 12 Months Following Acute Pulmonary Embolism
2021
BACKGROUND Few data are available on the long-term course and predictors of quality of life (QoL) following acute pulmonary embolism (PE). RESEARCH QUESTION What are the kinetics and determinants of disease-specific and generic health-related QoL 3 and 12 months following an acute PE? STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS The Follow-up after Acute Pulmonary Embolism (FOCUS) study prospectively followed up consecutive adult patients with objectively diagnosed PE. Patients were considered for study who completed the Pulmonary Embolism Quality of Life (PEmb-QoL) questionnaire at predefined visits 3 and 12 months following PE. The course of disease-specific QoL as assessed using the PEmb-QoL and the impact …
