A comparative study of fluoride release from two different sealants

2014

Objectives: The introduction of fluoride releasing sealants and glass ionomer cements as fissure sealants adds another dimension to prevention of pit and fissure caries. The ability of resin sealants and glass ionomer cements to release fluoride on a long term basis to the sealed enamel and the adjacent unsealed pit and fissure and cuspal in - cline enamel may allow for further reduction in pit and fissure caries experience for children. Hence, the study was conducted to compare the amount of fluoride release in the plaque after placing fluoride releasing pit and fissure sealants and glass ionomer fissure sealants used in Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (ART) approach. To compare the fluor…

Effect of hemostatic agent on marginal gaps of class V giomer restorations

2017

Background Contamination of dentin with hemostatic agents might exert a deleterious effect on adhesive procedures on dentin. The present study was undertaken to investigate the effect of aluminum chloride hemostatic agent on marginal gaps in Cl V giomer restorations. Material and Methods Fifty sound bovine permanent incisors were selected for the purpose of this in vitro study and Cl V cavities were prepared on their buccal surfaces; the gingival margins of the cavities were placed in dentin. The tooth samples were randomly assigned to two groups (n=25). The samples in groups 1 and 2 underwent a restorative procedure without and with the application of aluminum chloride hemostatic agent in …

Restorative justice and criminal proceedings in Italy

2017

In regards to restorative justice, Italian judicial system is one-step behind in respect to other systems. Conflict is traditionally based on an authoritative model, which is slowly and gradually opening up to a conciliationkind model. Our system also, which is still strongly based on penal action compulsoriness principle, is starting to be acquainted with these different models. At a legislative level, restorative justice is still not fully recognized. But by considering restorative justice as a tool including any conciliation or reparation formality, there are other institutions, foreseen and disciplined by Italian code of criminal procedure, that lead back to it.

Reversal of Hartmann's procedure: a single-centre experience of 533 consecutive cases.

2018

AIM Hartmann's procedure (HP) is common. However, restoration of intestinal continuity is not so frequent. The aim of this study was to determine predictive factors which might influence outcomes following the reversal of HP. METHOD All consecutive patients who underwent elective and emergency HP in a single institution between January 1999 and December 2014 were included. Data concerning patient, disease and treatment features were collected. Univariate and multivariate binary logistic regression models were used to determine prognostic factors. RESULTS A total of 533 consecutive patients underwent HP over the 16-year period. Factors that were associated with a higher probability of revers…

Influence of non-clinical factors on restorative rectal cancer surgery: An analysis of four specialized population-based digestive cancer registries …

2022

Abstract Background This study aims to measure the association between deprivation, health care accessibility and health care system with the likelihood of receiving non-restorative rectal cancer surgery (NRRCS). Methods All adult patients who had rectal resection for invasive adenocarcinoma diagnosed between 2007 and 2016 in four French specialised cancer registries were included. A multilevel logistic regression with random effect was used to assess the link between patient and health care structure characteristics on the probability of NRRCS. Results 2997 patients underwent rectal cancer resection in 68 health care structures: 708 (23.63%) had NRRCS. The likelihood of receiving NRCCS was…

Differences in ano-neorectal physiology of ileoanal and coloanal reconstructions for restorative proctectomy

2010

Objective  Restorative proctectomy with straight coloanal anastomosis (CAA) and restorative proctocolectomy with ilealpouch-anal anastomosis (IPAA) are options for maintaining bowel integrity after rectal resection. The aim of this study was to compare clinical function and anorectal physiology in patients treated with CAA and IPAA. Method  Three-dimensional vector-manometry and neorectal volumetry were performed in straight CAA [53 patients (34 male)] and IPAA [61 patients (39 male)] for ulcerative colitis. Function was assessed using a 14 day incontinence diary. Results  Function was similar in both groups, but neorectal compliance and threshold volumes for sensation, urge and maximum tol…

Could sonic delivery of bulk-fill resins improve the bond strength and cure depth in extended size class I cavities?

2020

Background The implementation of restorative procedures that guarantee success and optimize clinical time is the target of investigations in Restorative Dentistry. This study aimed to analyze the influence of sonic insertion of bulk-fill (BF) and conventional (C) resin composites on the microtensile bond-strength (µ-TBS) and cure depth (CD) of large and deep class I restorations. Material and Methods Fifty-six healthy human premolars were selected and occlusal cavities (4 x 4 x 3 mm; factor C = 5) were prepared. TC - Tetric N-Ceram (BF), SF - SonicFill (BF), and Z350 - Filtek Z350 XT (C) composite resins were used to restore the cavities, using sonic (S) and non-sonic (NS) insertion techniq…

Inclusion of the periodontal ligament in studies on the biomechanical behavior of fiber post-retained restorations: An in vitro study and three-dimen…

2016

Endodontically treated teeth are known to have reduced structural strength. Periodontal ligament may influence fracture resistance. The purpose of this study was to assess the influence of including the periodontal ligament in biomechanical studies about endodontically treated and restored teeth. Forty human maxillary central incisors were treated endodontically and randomly divided into four groups: non-crowned (with and without an artificial ligament) and crowned (with and without an artificial ligament) with glass-ceramic crowns. All groups received prefabricated glass-fiber posts and a composite resin core. Specimens were tested, under a flexural–compressive load, until failure occurre…

Effect of different polishing techniques on surface roughness and bacterial adhesion of three glass ionomer-based restorative materials : in vitro st…

2020

Background Although many reports concluded that polishing of glass ionomers is crucial for smoother surface and limiting the adhesion of cariogenic bacteria, there is no specific surface treatment protocol recommended. A novel material in the same category was released recently claimed to have surface smoothness comparable to resin composite and bacterial adhesion less than other types of glass ionomers. In this study, different polishing systems were tested with three glass ionomers one of them is the novel material to find the most appropriate polishing protocol. Objectives: To evaluate and compare the surface roughness and bacterial adhesion to resin modified glass ionomer, bioactive ion…
