On Stability of a Concentrated Fiber Suspension Flow

Linear stability analysis of a fiber suspension flow in a channel domain is performed using a modified Folgar-Tucker equation. Two kinds of potential instability are identified: one is associated with overcritical Reynolds number and another is associated with certain perturbations in fiber orientation field and is present for any Reynolds numbers. The second type of instability leads to initially growing transient perturbations in the microstructure. It is shown that both types of instability lead to instability of the bulk velocity field. Regional differences in Italian students' performance: a simulation model

This work presents the first results of a research project seeking to build a simulation model able to reproduce the differences of Italian students’ performance at regional level. A preliminary qualitative cause-and-effect model defines the main variable involved in the inter-generational skill formation processes, as well as their interplay with the job market context and the triggering of motivational forces for new skill acquisition. Such model was designed according to a system dynamics perspective, considered suitable for capturing the interrelatedness of key variables and for providing useful simulation tools to conduct and communicate future scenario analyses. Lynch syndrome (LS) is the most common hereditary cancer syndrome. Early diagnosis improves prognosis and reduces health care costs, through existing cancer surveillance methods. The problem is finding and diagnosing the cancer predisposing genetic condition. The current workup involves a complex array of tests that combines family cancer history and clinical phenotypes with tumor characteristics and sequencing data, followed by a challenging task to interpret the found variant(s). Los tumores de las glándulas salivales son una patología poco frecuente, con una incidencia aproximada de 2-3 casos por cada 100.000 habitantes, a pesar de ello son un motivo de consulta al especialista en Otorrinolaringología que no debemos menospreciar. Aproximadamente el 80% de estos tumores se originan en la glándula parótida y su tratamiento consistirá fundamentalmente en una parotidectomía.
