Supramolecular Approach in Energy Conversion Devices

2020

This review summarizes investigations carried out at the Laboratory of Photochemistry and Energy Conversion (LFCE) in the University of Sao Paulo dealing with design and characterization of ruthenium(II), rhenium(I) and iridium(III) polypyridine complexes with desired photochemical and photophysical properties in light of the development of optoelectronics and photoinduced energy conversion systems. First, the breakthroughs on molecular engineering of emissive ReI, RuII and IrIII complexes for the development of highly efficient light-emitting devices, such as organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) and light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs), are presented. Then, the photochemical and ph…

Effects of sequence, connectivity, and counter ions in new amide-linked Ru(tpy)2-Re(bpy) chromophores on redox chemistry and photophysics.

2013

New cationic metallo ligands L1-L3 based on bis(terpyridine) ruthenium(II) complexes decorated with differently substituted 2,2'-bipyridines attached via amide groups (5-NHCO-bpy, 4-CONH-bpy, 5-CONH-bpy) were prepared. Coordination of Re(I)Cl(CO)(3) fragments to the bpy unit gives the corresponding bimetallic Ru~Re complexes 1-3. Hydrogen bonds of the bridging amide groups to [PF(6)](-) counterions or to water molecules are observed both in the solid state and in solution. The impact of the amide orientation, the connecting site, and the coordination of counterions on redox and photophysical properties is explored. Both the metallo ligands L1-L3 and the bimetallic complexes 1-3 are emissive…

Clues to the nature of the impacting bodies from platinum-group elements (rhenium and gold) in borehole samples from the Clearwater East crater (Cana…

1997

— Seven large (10 g) impact melt rock samples from boreholes from the Boltysh impact crater (Ukraine) and six samples from the East Clearwater crater (Canada) were analyzed for Os, Ir, Ru, Rh, Pd, Re and Au by the nickel sulfide technique in combination with neutron activation. Earlier analyses of Clearwater East impact melt rocks have shown that they are strongly enriched in Ir, Os, Pd and Re. In this work, I confirm earlier findings and demonstrate similarly high enrichments of Rh and Ru. The average Os/Ir, Ru/Ir, Pd/Ir, Rh/Ir and Ru/Rh ratios of the melt rock samples from Clearwater East are CI-chondritic and yield an average Ir content of 25.2 ± 6.5 ng/g relative to an average upper cru…

Lifetime measurements in 166Re : Collective versus magnetic rotation

2016

Lifetimes of excited states in the neutron-deficient odd-odd nucleus 166Re have been measured for the first time using the recoil distance Doppler-shift method. The measured lifetime for the (8−) state; τ = 480 (80) ps, enabled an assessment of the multipolarities of the γ rays depopulating this state. Information on electromagnetic transition strengths were deduced for the γ -ray transitions from the (9−), (10−), and (11−) states, and in the case of the (10−) and (11−) states limits on the B(M1) and B(E2) strengths were estimated. The results are compared with total Routhian surface predictions and semiclassical calculations. Tilted-axis cranking calculations based on a relativistic mean-f…

Collective excitations in the transitional nuclei 163Re and 165Re

2015

Excited states in the neutron-deficient nuclei 163 75 Re88 and 165 75 Re90 were populated in the 106Cd(60Ni, p2nγ ) and 92Mo(78Kr, 3p2nγ ) fusion-evaporation reactions at bombarding energies of 270 and 380 MeV, respectively. γ rays were detected at the target position using the JUROGAM spectrometer while recoiling ions were separated in-flight by the RITU gas-filled recoil separator and implanted in the GREAT spectrometer. The energy level schemes for 163Re and 165Re were identified using recoil-decay correlation techniques. At low spin, the yrast bands of these isotopes consist of signature partner bands based on a single πh11/2 quasiproton configuration. The bands display large energy spl…

Quantitative analysis of rhenium in irradiated tungsten

2021

Abstract Pure tungsten (W), irradiated to 3.5 dpa in a target of the Swiss neutron spallation source (SINQ), was characterized using high-sensitivity HPGe gamma ray spectroscopy to identify the present radionuclides. Synchrotron X-ray absorption spectroscopy was used to quantify the amount of Re produced in the irradiated W. An atomic concentration of 0.61% Re in the irradiated W was determined from the height of the L3-edge X-ray absorption edge jump. Analysis of the local atomic structure from the extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectra indicates that rhenium (Re) produced in the system is mainly coordinated by W atoms and partly coordinated by void defects. First-princip…

Metalloporphyrins with metalmetal σ-bonds. Synthesis, spectroscopic characterization, and electrochemistry of (P)MRe(CO)5 where P is the dianion of …

1991

Abstract The synthesis, physicochemical properties, and electrochemistry of a new series of metal metal σ-bonded metalloporphyrins are reported. The investigated compounds are represented as (P)MRe(CO)5 where P is the dianion of octaethylporphyrin (OEP) or tetraphenylporphyrin (TPP) and M = Al, Ga, In, or Tl. These compounds provide the first examples of Al and Ga metalloporphyrins with covalent metalmetal bonds as well as give the first series of compounds in which the same metalate anion is covalently bonded to four different group 13 metalloporphyrins. Each synthesized complex was characterized by 1H NMR, IR, and UV-visible spectroscopy as well as by electrochemistry. Graham Δσ and Δπ …

Measurement of the quadrupole moment of Re185 and Re187 from the hyperfine structure of muonic X rays

2020

The hyperfine splitting of the 5g→4f transitions in muonic Re185,187 has been measured using high resolution high purity germanium detectors and compared to state-of-the-art atomic theoretical predictions. The spectroscopic quadrupole moment has been extracted using modern fitting procedures and compared to the values available in literature obtained from muonic x rays of natural rhenium. The extracted values of the nuclear spectroscopic quadrupole moment are 2.07(5) b and 1.94(5) b, respectively for Re185 and Re187.
