Microalbuminuria fractional clearance and early renal permselectivity changes in essential hypertension.

In order to verify if, in essential hypertension (EH), the microalbuminuria (AER) increase could be due to hemodynamic modifications or to glomerular structural changes, in 15 essential hypertensives (EHs) with 24-hour AER16 micrograms/min and in 15 EHs with 24-hour AERor = 16 micrograms/min, the day- and nighttime behavior of creatinine clearance (Ccr), as well as AER clearance (AER-C) and fractional clearance (AER-FC), and behavior of blood pressure (BP) was evaluated. Background: The short- and long-term prognosis of Takotsubo syndrome (TTS) presenting with right ventricular (RV) involvement remains poorly understood. Research Question: What is the incidence and clinical outcome of RV involvement in TTS? Developmental Changes and Daily Rhythm in Melatonin-Induced Inhibition of 3′,5′-Cyclic AMP Accumulation in the Rat Pituitary

Melatonin's transduction mechanisms were investigated using in vitro cultured anterior hemipituitaries. Melatonin inhibited cAMP and 3',5'-cyclic GMP accumulation in neonatal rat anterior pituitary stimulated with LHRH. Maximal inhibitory effect was reached within 25 min and persisted for at least 20 min. Inhibition of cAMP accumulation is specific for melatonin because its analogs N-acetylserotonin and 5-methoxytryptamine are 1000 times less potent. Melatonin effect is age- and time-dependent. Marked inhibition was observed in 5-, 10-, and 14-day-old rats but not in 29-day-old ones. Effects of amsacrine (m-AMSA), a new aminoacridine antitumor drug, on the rabbit heart.

There is emerging clinical evidence that amsacrine (m-AMSA) administration may be associated with cardiotoxic effects such as severe, even fatal, ventricular arrhythmias and impairment of the inotropic performance of the heart. Information on the cardiac effects of m-AMSA in animals is scanty. Studies on mice, dogs, and monkeys have not evidenced the cardiotoxicity of the compound. The data presented in this paper show that m-AMSA causes acute ECG alterations in normal rabbits and a dose-related negative inotropic effect on the isolated rabbit heart, suggesting that this species may be a useful model for the study of the cardiac actions of this antiblastic.
