The fossil burrower bug Eocenocydnus lisi described from the Late Eocene of the Isle of Wight, UK, is analysed using a parallel, cross-eyed viewing method. The species, tentatively placed in the subfamily Sehirinae, is redescribed and its systematic position is discussed. Newly recovered morphological characteristics allow it to be placed in the tribe Cydnini of the subfamily Cydninae.

Bakalaura darbā “Sociālās iekļaušanas principi Latvijā un Somijā 2007. un 2017. gadā” autore skata kā homoseksuāli cilvēki integrējas mūsdienu sabiedrībā, kāds ir valsts viedoklis šajā jautājumā un kā sabiedrība pieņem vai nepieņem homoseksuāli orientētus cilvēkus. Darba mērķis ir izpētīt, kāda ir Latvijas un Somijas sabiedrības attieksme pret homoseksualitāti mūsdienās, kas veido šo attieksmi un kas būtu jāuzlabo. Darba rezultātā autore konstatē, ka Latvijas sabiedrības attieksme lielākoties ir pozitīva, cilvēki atzīst, ka sabiedrībai ir jābūt iecietīgākai. Somijas sabiedrība ir vairāk atvērtāka un saprotošāka.

Chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is one of the main causes of chronic liver disease worldwide. In the last 5 years, treatment for HCV infection has experienced a marked development. In 2014, the use of ledipasvir/sofosbuvir with or without concomitant weight-based ribavirin was approved with a very significant increase in the sustained virological response. However, new side effects have been associated. We report the first case of an HCV infected patient treated for 12 wk with the combination of sofosbuvir/ledipasvir plus ribavirin who developed a miliary tuberculosis (TB) infection while on therapy. Background: Iron overload and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection together can lead to chronic liver damage in thalassemia major (TM) patients. Aims: We investigated viral, genetic, and disease factors influencing sustained virological response (SVR) after peg-interferon and ribavirin therapy in TM patients with HCV infection. It is increasingly clear that a tailored therapeutic approach to patients with hepatitis C virus infection is needed. Success rates in difficult to treat and low-responsive hepatitis C virus patients are not completely satisfactory, and there is the need to optimise treatment duration and intensity in patients with the highest likelihood of response. In addition, the management of special patient categories originally excluded from phase III registration trials needs to be critically re-evaluated. This article reports the recommendations for the treatment of hepatitis C virus infection on an individual basis, drafted by experts of three scientific societies.
