Sambucus nigra L. (Caprifoliaceae) is wide spread in temperate and sub-tropical zones. The consumption of its berries has been associated with health benefits especially for its high content of natural antioxidants such as polyphenols, in particular anthocyanins. In this work we investigated the polyphenolic composition and the in vitro antioxidant activities (ABTS, DPPH, BCB and FRAP-ferrozine (FRAP-FZ) assays) of S. nigra berries, collected in four different Sicilian areas (Italy). Comparative study to predict toxic modes of action of phenols from molecular structures.

Quantitative structure-activity relationship models for the prediction of mode of toxic action (MOA) of 221 phenols to the ciliated protozoan Tetrahymena pyriformis using atom-based quadratic indices are reported. The phenols represent a variety of MOAs including polar narcotics, weak acid respiratory uncouplers, pro-electrophiles and soft electrophiles. En este trabajo se realiza una lectura del mapa de manifestaciones apócrifas alrededor de la figura de Max Aub, escritor que construye un universo de superchería literaria desde sus obras iniciales, abarcando y fusionando diferentes géneros. A partir del contraste con algunos de los textos franceses que leyó, y que supusieron una herencia cultural de gran valor, se esbozará un panorama que incluya tanto a los maestros y predecesores en la práctica apócrifa aubiana, André Gide y Valéry Larbaud fundamentalmente, como a sus sucesores más representativos: los narradores leoneses creadores de Sabino Ordás. The medial amygdaloid nucleus (Me) is a key structure in the control of sociosexual behaviour in mice. It receives direct projections from the main and accessory olfactory bulbs, as well as an important hormonal input. During pregnancy, they might affect maternal metabolic status and there after fetal development. In this work, we studied metabolic and redox effects of low dose alpha-cypermethrin exposure in pregnant rats and their offspring. The diet containing alpha cypermethrin at 0.02 mg/kg/day was consumed during the entire gestation. Plasma biochemical parameters as well as liver lipid and oxidative stress markers were determined.
