A magmatic failed rift beneath the Gongola arm of the upper Benue trough, Nigeria?
2001
Abstract A magnetic anomaly map of the Gongola arm of the upper Benue trough was compiled from existing half-degree sheets of the upper Benue trough. The map is dominated by an elongated NE–SW magnetic low anomaly that stretches over a 100 km distance and has an average width of about 20 km. A combination of Werner deconvolution and forward modeling techniques on selected profiles across the major NE–SW anomaly lead to the conclusion that the anomaly may be caused by predominantly mafic rocks at depths of between 6 and 10 km, well below the base of the sediments, which are generally not more than 4.5 km thick. The presence of large and continuous bodies of mafic rocks indicated by these res…
Socio-demographic characteristics associated with emotional and social loneliness among older adults.
2021
Abstract Background International studies provide an overview of socio-demographic characteristics associated with loneliness among older adults, but few studies distinguished between emotional and social loneliness. This study examined socio-demographic characteristics associated with emotional and social loneliness. Methods Data of 2251 community-dwelling older adults, included at the baseline measure of the Urban Health Centers Europe (UHCE) project, were analysed. Loneliness was measured with the 6-item De Jong-Gierveld Loneliness Scale. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to evaluate associations between age, sex, living situation, educational level, migration background…
One coast, two systems: Regional innovation systems and entrepreneurial discovery in Western Norway
2021
This paper introduces an analytical framework for understanding how specialized and diversified regional innovation system (RIS) differ in the way an entrepreneurial discovery process (EDP) is likely to unfold. To analytically explore the proposed framework, we deploy a sequential explanatory design approach, using quantitative data to analyze the regional industry structure of the city regions of Bergen and Stavanger in Western Norway, followed by a qualitative analysis of interviews with key stakeholders in both regions. We find that the city regions face unique challenges that align with an understanding of their respective RIS categorization, providing evidence that the framework propos…
Analysis of good corporate governance at Indonesian telecom industry after privatization: case study at PT Telekom an PT Indosat
2006
Masteroppgave i økonomi og administrasjon, Høgskolen i Agder, Kristiansand The objective of this research is to examine whether there are differences of implementation of good corporate governance of company which privatized using different methods. This is relevant with the change of privatization pattern conducted by the government of Indonesia toward its state-owned companies, from Public Offering to Strategic Sale. One of important decisions taken by the government after the economic crisis is privatization of state-owned companies. It is done because the government finds difficulties to financing its national development programs and economic recovery. From company side, the change of …

The tholeiitic dolerites that crop out in three diapirs of the SE of the Iberian Chain (Alfarp, Quesa and Lugar Nuevo de Fenollet, Valencia), are the expression of evolved (low Ni, Cr and mg* values) basic magmas, injected into poorly lithified sediments (lutites, marls and gypsum) which represent the Upper Triassic (Keuper facies)-Hettangian boundary, developing sills with reduced thickness. Their mineral and whole-rock geochemical compositions indicate a continental tholeiitic affinity and certain similarities to a MORB composition and, on the other hand, show that the Alfarp dolerites represent the less evolved compositions, whereas the Fenollet dolerites show a significantly greater dif…
Geodynamic Setting of the Tertiary Hocheifel Volcanism (Germany), Part I: 40Ar/39Ar geochronology
2007
The Eifel volcanism is part of the Cenozoic Central European Volcanic Province and is located close to the Rhine Graben which has been formed by rifting and subsidence since the Eocene. Whereas the Quaternary volcanism of the Eifel appears to be genetically related to mantle plume activity, the cause of the Tertiary volcanism of the Hocheifel volcanic field is less clear. Here, we present geochronological evidence for the geotectonic setting of the Tertiary Eifel volcanism based on 40Ar/39Ar dating of 27 samples from 25 volcanic occurrences. Included are samples from the northern Upper Rhine Graben in order to evaluate a possible relationship between Hocheifel volcanism and Rhine Graben tap…
A geochemical traverse along the “Sperchios Basin e Evoikos Gulf” graben (Central Greece): Origin and evolution of the emitted fluids
2014
The studied area is a 130 km long fast spreading graben in Central Greece. Its complex geodynamical setting includes both the presence of a subduction slab at depth responsible for the recent (Quaternary) volcanic activity in the area and the western termination of a tectonic lineament of regional importance (the North-Anatolian fault). A high geothermal gradient is made evident by the presence of many thermal springs with temperatures from 19 to 82 C, that discharge along the normal faults bordering the graben. In the period 2004e2012, 58 gas and 69 water samples were collected and their chemical and isotopic analysis revealed a wide range of compositions. Two main groups of thermal waters…
Online mass flow prediction in CFB boilers with explicit detection of sudden concept drift
2010
Fuel feeding and inhomogeneity of fuel typically cause fluctuations in the circulating fluidized bed (CFB) process. If control systems fail to compensate the fluctuations, the whole plant will suffer from dynamics that is reinforced by the closed-loop controls. This phenomenon causes reducing efficiency and the lifetime of process components. In this paper we address the problem of online mass flow prediction, which is a part of control. Particularly, we consider the problem of learning an accurate predictor with explicit detection of abrupt concept drift and noise handling mechanisms. We emphasize the importance of having domain knowledge concerning the considered case and constructing the…
Hva, hvem og hvordan? : håndbok i helse-, miljø- og sikkerhetsarbeid
2003
