Locust neuropeptides stimulating sex pheromone production in female European corn borer moth, Ostrinia nubilalis

1990

Abstract The presence of a pheromonotropically active hormone (PBAN-like substance) from locust organs, ( Locusta migratoria ) has been demonstrated. Extracts of brain, corpora cardiaca, corpora allata, suboesophageal ganglia and thoracic ganglia of L. migratoria caused highly pheromonotropic responses in decapitated females of the European corn borer moth ( Ostrinia nubilalis ). The highest activity per unit weight of tissue was found in the corpora cardiaca and corpora allata of the locust followed by the brain plus suboesophageal ganglion of O. nubilalis . Following 8 days of disconnection, separating the corpora allata from the corpora cardiaca and suboesophageal ganglion, the pheromono…

Temporal resolution and temporal transfer properties: gabaergic and cholinergic mechanisms.

2007

Temporal resolution is a basic property of the visual system and critically depends upon retinal temporal coding properties which are also of importance for directional coding. Whether the temporal coding properties for directional coding derive form inherent properties or critically depend upon the temporal coding mechanisms is unclear. Here, the influence of acetylcholine and GABA upon photopic temporal coding was investigated in goldfish, using flicker stimuli, in a behavioral and an electrophysiological (ERG) approach. The goldfish temporal resolution ability decreased from more than 90% correct choices at 20 Hz flicker frequency to about 65% at 45 Hz flicker frequency with a flicker fu…

El género <i>Lysaphidus</i> (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) en la Península Ibérica

1995

The genus Lysaphidus Smith, 1944 (Hymenoptera, Braconidae, Aphidiinae) is recorded for the first time from the Iberian Peninsula represented by two species: L. arvensis Stary, 1960, first record for the Iberian Peninsula, and L. santolinae n. sp., both of them parasitoids of Coloradoa Wilson,1910 genus (Homoptera, Aphididae). The mummies were collected on Santolina chamaecyparissus L. and Santolina rosmarinifolia L. (Asteraceae).

Glochidia Infection of Endemic Fishes from Lake Prespa, N. Macedonia

2022

Large freshwater mussels (Unionida) are long-lived, have large bodies, and produce thousands to millions of larvae (glochidia) that usually must attach to host fish tissue to complete their life cycle. This is an obligate parasitic stage of mussel larvae. However, less than one in onemillion find a suitable host and survive. The degree of host specificity varies among unionid species, from specialists that can successfully parasitize only one or a few closely related fish species to generalists that can complete development on a taxonomically broad range of fish species. In addition, freshwater mussels are among the most threatened groups of animals. This is due to habitat destruction, the …

On flora semantics in house names found in Vidzeme: materials contained in the 1826 counting of souls in Vidzeme province

2014

On flora semantics in house names found in Vidzeme: materials contained in the 1826 counting of souls in Vidzeme province The information of the counting of souls containing both house names and names of individuals is an essential aspect of historical onomastics. The first counting of souls in Vidzeme took place in 1782 and coincided with the 4 th analogous census of the provinces of Russia. Subsequently these took place at irregular intervals, the 5 th in 1795, the 6 th in 1811, the 7 th in 1816, the 8 th in 1834, the 9 th in 1850, and the final, 10 th in 1858. The number of house names entered in the 1826 counting of souls in Vidzeme province (guberna) is 14,500, including those of peasa…
